About The Position

The Multimedia Journalist at KSTU Fox 13, an E.W. Scripps station, helps develop and report local news stories across television and digital platforms. The role involves discovering story ideas, gathering and verifying information, producing multimedia content, and appearing on air. The journalist works with newsroom colleagues to prepare newscasts and online stories, contributing to local journalism that informs and connects the community.

Requirements

Computer literacy, including familiarity with newsroom computer systems.
Videography and non-linear editing experience.
Knowledge of broadcast-quality camera equipment.
Ability to edit video on non-linear systems.
Strong broadcast and AP-style writing skills.
Proficiency posting content to various websites.
Self-motivation and ability to work in a deadline-driven environment.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Valid driver's license, good driving record, and ability to provide proof of insurance meeting company-required limits.

Nice To Haves

BS/BA in a related discipline or equivalent years of experience preferred.
Generally, 3+ years of experience in a related field preferred.

Responsibilities

Receive assignments or evaluate news leads and tips to develop story ideas.
Gather and verify factual information through interviews, observation, and research.
Organize materials and write stories according to editorial style and format standards.
Shoot video and still photos to illustrate stories.
Edit or assist in editing videos for multimedia platforms.
Appear on television in live or pre-recorded situations.
Work cooperatively with photographers assigned to stories, when applicable.
Assist the news producer in preparing newscasts.
Assist online staff in preparing multimedia stories.
Perform other duties as assigned.
