About The Position

Alaska's News Source is seeking a versatile, news-driven journalist who is adept at field reporting, newscast production, and breaking news management. This role involves a split schedule: two days per week producing newscasts and three days reporting in the field, covering stories that are relevant to Alaskans. The ideal candidate is passionate about all aspects of journalism and thrives in a dynamic environment. The MMJ/Producer works from 2:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday.

Requirements

  • Experience in both broadcast producing and MMJ reporting.
  • Strong editorial judgment, particularly in breaking news situations.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines simultaneously.
  • A digital-aware mindset, considering audience across all platforms.
  • Excellent writing skills, producing tight, active, conversational broadcast copy.
  • Self-motivated and dependable, capable of leading without direct supervision on weekends.
  • A desire to win, a positive attitude, and the ability to reflect on work and apply feedback.
  • Ability to work a combination of dayside and nightside shifts, including overtime for breaking news or special coverage.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to drive a company vehicle.
  • Must be able to carry 35+ pounds of gear.
  • Experienced in shooting and editing unique content.

Nice To Haves

  • A journalism-related degree (or similar) is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Produce two newscasts daily, focusing on strong story selection, compelling teases, and smooth show flow.
  • Make real-time editorial decisions during breaking news situations with minimal supervision.
  • Collaborate with anchors, meteorologists, and directors to deliver a polished, audience-focused broadcast.
  • Write and edit copy, teases, and anchor reads under deadline pressure.
  • Write and post daily copy on all digital platforms, including web, social media, news app, digital desk/CTV, and television newscasts.
  • Research, pitch, shoot, write, edit, and present original news packages and live reports.
  • Gather content with a multi-platform mindset, considering what works best for social and digital platforms in addition to broadcast.
  • File social content, including vertical videos, from the field in real time when news warrants it.
  • Develop and maintain sources across the state of Alaska.
  • Contribute story ideas that serve both broadcast and digital audiences.
