About The Position

The City of Everett is seeking a Multimedia/Digital Communications & Web Specialist to perform professional and technical functions in support of the City’s multimedia and digital communications efforts. This role involves coordinating and implementing the planning and development of the City’s website design, technology infrastructure, and content changes. The specialist will manage front-end content and design, as well as back-end administration within the content management system, ensuring content aligns with City branding and style standards. They will also suggest and incorporate new multimedia elements to enhance user experience and ensure all content adheres to the City’s ADA accessibility plan and established accessibility standards. Additionally, the role includes providing training and support to departmental web managers, developing publications, graphic design, photography, and video content to support communication and public engagement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public or business administration, marketing, digital media or a related field
  • Four (4) years of professional level experience in video production, website management, graphic design or related field.
  • Knowledge of website content management systems and web publishing practices.
  • Familiarity with CivicPlus or other hosted CMS products is a plus.
  • Knowledge of web accessibility standards and guidelines (WCAG) and ADA compliance for digital content.
  • Knowledge of online content standards, digital communications tools, and multimedia publishing platforms.
  • Knowledge of social media content development practices.
  • Knowledge of design principles and publishing software, including InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator, needed to develop compelling and effective publications.
  • Ability to understand the many components that go into building a website and how best to plan for, develop and implement what’s needed to achieve the best results.
  • Ability to manage website content and structure using a content management system (CMS).
  • Ability to plan, organize, and collaborate with others in the implementation of multimedia and digital projects.
  • Ability to complete photography and video editing tasks and projects for digital platforms.
  • Ability to develop creative visual content using professional design software, such as Adobe Creative Suite, as well as Canva.
  • Ability to demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, including a positive customer service orientation, for interacting with both internal and external contacts.
  • Ability to conduct and/or attend public meetings/hearings before or after business hours.
  • Ability to show good judgement when navigating practices and policies and selecting new methods or techniques for obtaining results.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and implement the planning and development of the City’s website design, technology infrastructure, and content changes.
  • Manage front-end content and design and back-end administration within the content management system.
  • Ensure content aligns with City branding and style standard.
  • Suggest where and how to incorporate new or redesigned multimedia elements into the City’s communications to attract users and improve the user experience.
  • Ensure all content adheres to the City’s ADA accessibility plan and ensure digital content meets established accessibility standards and guidance.
  • Conduct an accessibility review of the website and digital content to ensure it aligns with regulatory standards.
  • Provide onboarding, training, and ongoing collaborative support for departmental web managers, including guidance on website publishing standards, accessibility requirements, and effective use of the City’s content management.
  • Develop and produce publications and other printed materials, graphic design, photography, and video content to support communication and public engagement.
  • Manage the City’s website including both front-end content presentation and back-end administration within the content management system; update pages, manage navigation and site structure, and publish web content.
  • Coordinate and support implementation of the City’s ADA web accessibility plan, including monitoring website content for accessibility compliance and assisting departmental web managers in meeting accessibility standards for web pages, documents, and multimedia content.
  • Provide guidance and design expertise on look, feel, and navigation of websites; develop visuals for City websites and other City needs, or coordinate with internal or external resources to create visuals.
  • Collaborate with Communications and IT staff to support website functionality, improvements, and accessibility enhancements.
  • Provide guidance to departments on best practices for visual content, digital publishing, and accessible web content.
  • Partner with departments to develop graphic design elements and publications supporting City communications and outreach.
  • Partner with Communications and IT staff to coordinate back up staffing availability and assignments.
  • Develop video content including streaming City meetings.
  • Develop photographic, short-form video, streaming, and other digital communications projects needed by the City.
  • Ensure visual and digital communications materials align with the City’s established brand standards.
  • Maintain organized media libraries for photography, graphics, and video assets used in City communications.
  • Provide support for social media content creation, planning and posting social content and campaigns.
  • Review materials to ensure consistency in branding and message.
  • Perform related work and special projects as assigned.
