About The Position

The primary goal of the Multilingual Consultant & Coach position is to enhance teachers' instructional capabilities to effectively educate and support multilingual learners. This is achieved by providing educators with targeted professional development, resources, and ongoing coaching across several school districts. The Multilingual Consultant & Coach ensures that all multilingual students receive an equitable and high-quality education that addresses their unique linguistic and cultural needs. Through collaboration and leadership, the consultant strives to build teacher capacity, improve student outcomes, and foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment for multilingual students.

Requirements

  • A valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with an endorsement in Bilingual Education or ESL
  • Five (5) years of full-time teaching experience as a certified ESL or bilingual teacher
  • At least 2 or more years of leadership experience.
  • Proven experience in leading adults and developing impactful professional learning opportunities tailored for educators.
  • Extensive experience providing curriculum support for multilingual learners in a variety of educational settings (ie: General ed, special education, ESL, etc)
  • Demonstrated ability to develop curriculum and instructional strategies focused on Multilingual learners
  • Strong working knowledge of WIDA Standards and the Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP).
  • Familiarity with established best practices in working with Multilingual learners
  • Valid driver's license required.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference will be given to candidates with a Master’s Degree in TESOL, Trainer of SIOP (Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol)

Responsibilities

  • Provide coaching and support to teachers in implementing effective teaching strategies for multilingual learners.
  • Develop and deliver professional development sessions focused on multilingual learners.
  • Collaborate with teachers and district leaders to assess the needs of multilingual students and develop targeted support plans.
  • Monitor and evaluate the progress of multilingual programs and initiatives
  • Serve as a resource for teachers and staff on best practices in multilingual education.
  • Attend various collaboration opportunities through the State of Michigan and county initiatives to support Multilingual Learners.
  • Consult with local districts to assist with EL Evaluations, Language Assistance Plans, and Professional Development surrounding Multilingual Learners.
  • Conduct training on the administration of the WIDA Assessment annually
  • Provide Resources to Districts on accommodations for state assessments for multilingual learners
  • Collaborate with the Lead Administrator on Title 3 and Section 41 grants
  • Assist with the County-wide ESL Collaboration Meetings
  • Provide monthly updates to Districts on professional development opportunities and EL program requirements
  • Attend Elementary, Secondary, and Curriculum County meetings
  • Assist with documentation of Professional Development for Title 3 Consortium Teachers
  • Assists the Multilingual Department in coordinating Parent Engagement activities
  • Works with the Administrator to conduct a comprehensive needs assessment and EL Evaluation with stakeholders annually
  • Complete daily activity sheets/PARs
