About The Position

Nightwing is seeking a Multidisciplinary Engineering Intern with the technical and communication skills needed to support ongoing programs at our Springfield, Virginia location. Candidates must be professional, self-starters, possess a positive attitude, and work well with engineering and technician teams. This position is an onsite role.

Requirements

Enrolled in an accredited college or university, pursuing a M.S. or B.S. in Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace, Mining, Computer, Software, Systems, or Electrical Engineering (or related discipline)
Rising Junior or Senior by the start of Summer 2027, a GPA of 3.0+ in a 4.0 grade scale is desired
U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain and retain a U.S. Top Secret Clearance with a successful Counterintelligence (CI) polygraph (if hired full time after graduation)
Experience or coursework with CAD software package for mechanical design and documentation (SolidWorks preferred)
Fundamental engineering coursework and knowledge
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Proficient with MS Office tools including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Project
Ability to adapt to shifting program and task priorities
Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary, collaborative team environment balancing diverse project tasks and types
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Background check and drug screen required (every external new hire in the U.S.), drug screen only performed on re-hires who have been gone for more than 1 year

Nice To Haves

Coursework in Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace, Mining, Computer, Software, Systems, or Electrical Engineering
Experience working in a team environment
Experience with mechanical assembly
Working knowledge of common hand and powered tools
Experience with laboratory testing
Experience with computational analysis software (e.g. Matlab, Python, MathCad)

Responsibilities

Support of multidisciplinary engineering activities and senior engineers on various projects within the program
Design and analysis of tools/mechanisms, creation of detailed fabrication drawings, mechanical testing, rapid prototyping and assembly, report and presentation writing, and design review support
