About The Position

The Multi-Skilled Operator - NAF position involves a variety of tasks related to material handling, equipment operation, quality control, and general shop duties within a manufacturing environment. This role requires adherence to safety regulations, maintaining a clean workspace, and operating various machinery and equipment. The operator will be responsible for loading and unloading materials, performing inspections, operating grinders, and assisting with inventory and die changes. The position also includes yard duties and the expectation of becoming proficient in all forge crew positions, which may lead to on-call weekend responsibilities. Communication with management and other crew members is essential, as is adherence to the company's Quality Management System.

Proficiency at the skillset of each forge crew position.
Ability to operate an overhead crane and various below hook lifting devices.
Ability to operate mobile equipment including manipulators, forklifts, skid steer, and long reach.
Experience with dimensional inspections and recording data.
Experience operating a grinder.
Experience with yard duties including scrap and waste management.
Experience with post-forge heat treat operations.
Experience assisting with die or tool installation/changes.
Experience with two-way radio communication.
Knowledge of NAF’s ISO 9001 Quality Management System (QMS).
Ability to perform minor maintenance and lubrication.
Ability to assist with onboarding and training new/existing employees.

Responsibilities

Observes all safety rules and regulations and meets all safety program requirements.
Maintains work area in a clean, orderly, and safe condition per the housekeeping policy.
Receives daily communication from the Blacksmith Production Manager (verbal/electronic).
Utilizes an overhead crane and various below hook lifting devices as appropriate for the part being handled to load and unload trucks and/or railcars and for other material movements.
Operates crane and mobile equipment with care to avoid damage.
Inspects chains, slings, mobile equipment and cranes daily.
Initials and dates bills of lading (BOL)/ dispositions documentation as required prior to loading.
Receives material, equipment and supplies.
Initials and dates packing list or bills of lading and dispositions documentation as required.
Orders miscellaneous shipping supplies as necessary.
Performs dimensional inspections on as-forged parts and records/enters sizes, weights, etc. as required.
Separates crop ends by color.
Loads crop ends into scrap trucks.
Handles, identifies, and transfers raw, work-in-process and finished material as necessary.
Coats non-ferrous material as required by conversion customers.
Assists in conducting physical inventory surveys.
Refuels mobile equipment as necessary.
Operates grinder to remove defects, cracks, seams, laps, etc. from material.
Grinds press dies as necessary.
Performs yard duties such as: dumping scale/scrap/trash, arranging press tools, transporting material in/out/ around the shop, and scheduling pick-up for scale/metal recycling/municipal waste.
Operated manipulators, forklifts, skid steer, long reach and other mobile equipment as necessary.
Expected to become proficient at the skillset of each forge crew position.
Once proficient, will be included in on-call weekends.
Receives ingots, cross checking BOLs, various paperwork and inventory tracking system for accuracy, and recording subsequent ingot location and time.
Performs post-forge heat treat operations.
Assists in the installation or changing of dies or tools.
Maintains two-way radio communication with shipping, management, and other press crew members.
Reports defective material, tooling and faulty equipment to the Production Manager.
Performs work in accordance with NAF’s ISO 9001 Quality Management System (QMS).
Assists with onboarding and/or training new/existing employees in shipping.
Lubricates equipment and performs minor maintenance as necessary.
Aids maintenance as needed.
Performs all other duties as necessary.
