About The Position

WZZM-TV Grand Rapids, the ABC TEGNA affiliate, is seeking an experienced Multi-Skilled Journalist to support its tradition of superior reporting and newsgathering. The role is for a creative storyteller who can develop unique, memorable, well-written stories and share them across platforms using strong photography and editing. The journalist should understand multi-platform journalism and be open to approaches beyond traditional television news. A current driver's license and the ability to operate a news-gathering vehicle to and from various locations are required.

Requirements

• Current driver's license and ability to operate a news-gathering vehicle to and from various locations.
• Solid news judgment, strong communication skills, creativity, and ethical decision-making skills.
• Strong writing and production skills, including tease writing abilities.
• Ability to stay organized and work under constant deadlines.
• Ability to calmly handle live breaking-news situations and changing events.
• Proven ability to create social and digital content.

Nice To Haves

• One to three years of reporting experience is preferred.
• Experience with ENPS, EDIUS, and Axis graphics is preferred.
• Knowledge of Grand Rapids is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Perform authoritative, compelling live shots during developing stories and breaking news.
• Develop story ideas and find sources in the community who can provide information about events and ideas in their areas of expertise.
• Identify, write, and produce stories within a specific framework; research facts and credibility.
• Maintain and develop sources to strengthen reporting.
• Shoot, write, produce, and edit on-air and online content within deadlines.
• Use creative production techniques, including graphics and new forms of media such as viewer pictures and webcam interviews, to enhance stories.
• Use social media and digital tools to research, discover, and distribute content.
• Attend editorial meetings and offer story ideas daily.
• Write in an exciting, captivating, and authentic manner.
