About The Position

The Save Mart Companies is California’s largest regional, full-service grocery chain, founded over 70 years ago. We are currently recruiting for the position of Multi-Purpose Clerk - Grocery. The Multi-Purpose Clerk may be assigned to one of several departments within the store – to include Center Store, Produce, Meat/Seafood, Bakery/Deli, or Janitorial. The Multi-Purpose Clerk is responsible for promoting sales within assigned department, answering our customers’ questions, responding to customer requests for products, and accurately placing special orders. The Multi-Purpose Clerk practices safe food handling procedures, maintaining clean work area, orderly and free from safety hazards. The Clerk receives, inspects, and logs products for accuracy of shipment and quality as well as stocks, rotates, and merchandises product to maintain freshness and department appeal.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years of age
Excellent customer service and communication (verbal and written) skills
Ability to work with a sense of urgency and self-motivation
Capability to be proactive, initiative, enthusiastic, and flexible on the job
Six months of related experience
Must be available to work a variety of required retail hours
Requires standing and other physical movements on a frequent basis
Requires lifting up to 40 lbs. without assistance

Responsibilities

Promoting sales within assigned department
Answering customer questions
Responding to customer requests for products
Accurately placing special orders
Practicing safe food handling procedures
Maintaining a clean work area, orderly and free from safety hazards
Receiving, inspecting, and logging products for accuracy of shipment and quality
Stocking, rotating, and merchandising product to maintain freshness and department appeal
Operating the check-stand according to company policy and procedures (Center Store/Front End)
Memorizing PLU codes and keeping up to date with new products (Center Store/Front End)
Ordering, receiving, unloading, stocking and rotating product onto shelves and cases in all areas of center store operations (Center Store/Front End)
Merchandising product and performing Point-Of-Sale (POS) and inventory activities (Center Store/Front End)
Trimming, washing, and wrapping produce according to company policy (Produce)
Maintaining floral area both inside and outside of store (Produce)
Keeping all areas and equipment of the department clean (Produce)
Weighing, wrapping/packaging and labeling products for display (Meat/Seafood)
Providing customer service at the seafood counter (Meat/Seafood)
Taking special orders for items such as custom cuts of meat or holiday items (Meat/Seafood)
Operating equipment such as slicers and wrappers (Meat/Seafood)
Preparing, weighing, packaging, and labeling products for display (Bakery/Deli)
Taking special orders for items such as cakes and party trays (Bakery/Deli)
Operating equipment such as ovens, proofers, slicers, and mixers (Bakery/Deli)
Maintaining cleanliness and sanitation throughout the store (Janitorial)
Sweeping and mopping sales floor, front end, back rooms, and refrigerated areas
Cleaning restrooms, break room, office areas, shelving and cases, front end equipment, shopping carts, and vending machines (Janitorial)
Cleaning front of store and parking lot, and emptying trash (Janitorial)
Operating janitorial equipment such as scrubbers and buffers (Janitorial)
May operate forklift if authorized and certified
May operate baler if authorized
Performing other duties as assigned
