About The Position

This position provides journey level and/or Master Multi-Crafted technical trade skills for the maintenance, repair, installation, and operation of residence halls, apartments, and dining facilities. The role involves performing refrigeration repair as a primary duty, with advanced knowledge of kitchen equipment and HVAC systems. The technician will also perform multi-crafted work in other trade areas such as electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and painting as needed. Responsibilities include analyzing work orders, troubleshooting system and equipment malfunctions, coordinating repairs with other trades, inspecting work to meet standards, and ensuring all work adheres to acceptable industry standards. Excellent interpersonal communication and customer service skills are essential for communicating with residents and staff regarding repairs and work order status. The role requires accurate and timely completion of paperwork, including work orders, preventive maintenance documentation, and parts requests. The technician will also be responsible for charging out materials, accounting for inventory, and performing inventory tasks. This position requires carrying a UT cell phone, participating in an on-call rotation for emergency repairs (24/7), and working weekends and overtime as needed. Driving a UT vehicle for work site visits, equipment transport, and maintenance/repairs is also a requirement. Safety is a key component, involving participation in safety training, reporting unsafe acts, and promoting lock-out/tag-out procedures. Professional development through ongoing training and workshops is encouraged.

Requirements

  • High school graduation or GED.
  • At least 5 years of experience building construction, mechanical, or utilities trade specified with at least 3 of those years being journey level experience.
  • Experience with tools and equipment common to the trades specified.
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
  • Class "C" operator's driver's license.
  • Current three year driving record from the current state of residence.
  • If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident.

Nice To Haves

  • More than five (5) years of journey level kitchen equipment cold side refrigeration experience.
  • Electrical experience installing conduit, wiring, controls, and repair of multiple electrical systems in commercial and residential.
  • Licensed by the State of Texas as a master or journey level HVAC technician.
  • Commercial and residential renovation experience, experience in maintenance and repair of apartments or residence halls.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal communication skills with the ability to receive, respond, and follow through with written and verbal work-related instructions from supervisors, customers, and co-workers.

Responsibilities

  • Perform refrigeration repair (primary) and have advanced knowledge of kitchen equipment and HVAC systems.
  • Install, repair, and maintain all refrigeration and HVAC equipment.
  • Experience in kitchen equipment cold side refrigeration storage units, ice machines, beverage equipment and heating and cooling systems.
  • Provide multi-crafted work in other trade areas to include but not limited to electrical, plumbing, carpenter, kitchen equipment, and painting as needed.
  • Analyze computer generated work orders and prioritize work.
  • Use troubleshooting techniques and diagnostics to identify system and equipment malfunction.
  • Coordinate repairs with other trades as needed.
  • Inspect and evaluate work as needed to meet standards.
  • Ensure all work is performed to acceptable industry standards.
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal communication and customer service skills.
  • Communicate with supervisor, staff, and residents regarding needed repairs and work order status.
  • Follow through with written and oral instructions from supervisor.
  • Complete and submit paperwork in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Sign off completed work orders, provide status updates for work orders, perform preventive maintenance documentation and provide accurate information for parts requested.
  • Charge out all material and account for all inventory used.
  • Return all unused inventory into system.
  • Perform inventory of all items as required.
  • Carry a UT cell phone and be on the on-call rotation and respond to emergencies as requested.
  • Perform and respond to emergency repairs 24/7 and facilitate completion as needed.
  • Work weekends and overtime as determined by the supervisor.
  • Drive a UT vehicle to work site, transport equipment and supplies as needed to perform routine and preventive maintenance, and/or repairs.
  • Participate and is involved with safety on the job and in the shop.
  • Assist other co-workers with safety related events when necessary.
  • Report any and all unsafe acts or safety related concerns to safety rep, supervisor and/or Safety Specialist.
  • Promote and train on lock out/tag out program.
  • Promotes professional development of self and all staff to improve knowledge and work skills through ongoing training and workshops, including monthly safety training.
