About The Position

Rudiments of music theory equivalent to the AMU4M Ontario Secondary School curriculum, including rhythm and meter, staff notation, key signatures, scales and modes, intervals, transposition, triads and seventh chords.

Requirements

  • Master of Music degree.
  • Evidence of success teaching Music Theory in a classroom setting at either the Secondary or Post-Secondary level, either in an institutional or non-institutional setting.

Responsibilities

  • Teach Rudiments of Music Theory equivalent to the AMU4M Ontario Secondary School curriculum.
  • Cover topics including rhythm and meter, staff notation, key signatures, scales and modes, intervals, transposition, triads and seventh chords.
  • Deliver instruction in a lecture format.
  • Manage a class size of approximately 40 students.
  • Potentially engage with pedagogical technologies leading to improved outcomes.
  • Potentially engage with current music theory pedagogical literature and best practices.
  • Mark and grade student work.
  • Coordinate large classes or multi-section courses if applicable.
