About The Position

The MSL/Senior MSL is a field-based scientific expert who strategically supports research and business objectives in a designated therapeutic area across the product lifecycle and within an assigned geography. The role serves as AbbVie’s primary communicator of science to healthcare professionals in the territory and develops professional relationships with internal and external customers to provide medical and scientific support for AbbVie initiatives. The MSL/Senior MSL is regarded as a peer scientific expert in the designated therapeutic area or product and serves as a conduit for information, education, and research activities concerning current and future therapies in development or commercialized by AbbVie. The position works closely with other AbbVie personnel to address healthcare professionals’ information, education, and research needs and to identify and meet scientific and technical training needs of commercial organizations. The territory includes Oklahoma, Northeast Texas, or Louisiana; candidates must live in the territory or be willing to self-relocate there. Travel of up to 75% is required. Job grade, level, and title will be determined based on the selected candidate’s credentials, education, and experience.

Requirements

Advanced degree in a relevant scientific discipline, such as PharmD, MD/DO, PhD, or APP (Physician Associate or Nurse Practitioner); a doctorate in a health science or clinical discipline is strongly preferred.
For Senior MSL, typically at least 3 years of relevant experience; for MSL, typically 0–2 years of relevant experience.
Ability to identify, analyze, and translate territory and corporate needs to support internal and external customers and achieve business and clinical objectives.
Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and other software skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong interpersonal, presentation, and teaching skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to adapt effectively to new structures, processes, requirements, or cultures.
Strong planning, organizational, team, and leadership skills.
Meet healthcare industry representative (HCIR) credentialing requirements for entering facilities and organizations in the assigned territory; these may include background checks, drug screens, and proof of immunization or vaccination.
Ability to learn and effectively convey clinical and non-clinical technical information.
Ability to engage an audience and help it understand and retain information.
Willingness to travel up to 75% of the time.
Must live in, or be willing to self-relocate within, the assigned territory of Oklahoma, Northeast Texas, or Louisiana.

Nice To Haves

Psychiatry or neurology experience is highly preferred.
A doctorate in a health science or clinical discipline is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

Identify, develop, and maintain professional relationships with thought leaders, academic centers, and researchers in assigned therapeutic areas to support access to current medical and scientific information.
Present scientific information and education about disease states, the therapeutic landscape, and AbbVie products across the product lifecycle to healthcare professionals, including physicians, academic institutions, and researchers.
Support research initiatives requested by AbbVie R&D, Clinical Operations, and Medical Affairs, as well as physician-initiated projects, including site evaluation and identification, recruitment, investigator meetings, external expert identification, and external collaboration management.
Prepare AbbVie for entry into new therapeutic areas by creating awareness and relationships within the medical community.
Build and collaborate on relationships with internal cross-functional partners; work with in-field commercial teams, as appropriate, to develop and execute account plans supporting shared business objectives.
Serve as a scientific resource to commercial partners, as appropriate, to support activities.
Answer unsolicited medical questions and address other clinically related medical information issues as a medical/scientific resource to healthcare providers.
Support and conduct ongoing training for medical affairs, field sales, and other internal personnel as directed.
Apply strategic segmentation and optimize resource utilization.
Comply with applicable corporate and divisional policies and procedures, including accurate and timely documentation of healthcare professional interactions.
Maintain annual expenses within assigned budget parameters.
