About The Position

The Middle School CTE Teacher in Computer Science is responsible for developing and delivering an engaging curriculum that introduces students to foundational computer science concepts, computational thinking, coding, and digital problem-solving. This teacher will inspire students to explore careers in technology while building skills in programming, data, cybersecurity, and digital citizenship. The role requires a dynamic educator who can create an innovative, collaborative, and hands-on learning environment aligned to CTE pathways and future high school coursework.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Education, Technology, or a related field.
  • State teaching certification in CTE, Computer Science, or a related area (preferred).
  • Previous experience teaching computer science, technology, or a related subject at the middle or high school level (preferred).
  • Industry experience in technology, programming, or related fields is highly desirable.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to engage and inspire students with diverse backgrounds and learning styles.
  • Proficiency with educational technology, coding platforms, and computer science tools.
  • Ability to creatively secure and manage resources to build a robust CTE experience, including seeking external donations and partnerships when needed.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of Sugar Creek Charter School.
  • Willingness to participate in extracurricular activities and school events.
  • Background check clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Implement an engaging and relevant computer science curriculum aligned with state standards, high school CTE pathways, and overall school goals.
  • Teach foundational concepts such as coding, algorithms, data, cybersecurity, digital citizenship, and emerging technologies.
  • Provide hands-on learning through project-based learning, simulations, and real-world technology challenges.
  • Integrate technology tools and platforms that allow students to actively design, create, and problem-solve using computer science principles.
  • Encourage creativity, critical thinking, and computational thinking through coding projects and collaborative activities.
  • Support students in developing their own technology-based projects and guide them through design, testing, and presentation.
  • Provide individualized support and mentorship to help students explore interests in computer science and related career fields.
  • Collaborate with teachers and staff to integrate computer science concepts across content areas and participate in interdisciplinary projects.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development to remain current with best practices in CTE and computer science education.
  • Engage with local technology professionals, businesses, and community organizations to provide students with exposure to real-world applications.
  • Participate in planning and coaching sessions with the curriculum leader.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and upcoming events.
  • Organize and oversee extracurricular opportunities such as coding clubs, competitions, hackathons, or school-wide technology projects.
  • Foster partnerships with local technology organizations and professionals to enhance student learning and mentorship opportunities.
  • Participate in school events, parent-teacher conferences, and community outreach activities.
