About The Position

The MRO Buyer is responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and managing inventory of maintenance, repair, and operating supplies required to support plant operations. This position works closely with Maintenance, Engineering, Production, and vendors to ensure parts, materials, and services are available when needed while maintaining inventory accuracy and controlling costs.

  • Ability to identify opportunities for cost reduction and improved parts availability

  • Ability to participate in reliability and continuous improvement initiatives

  • Ability to report food safety and quality problems
  • Ability to create and close work orders
  • Ability to document packing slips
  • Ability to confirm parts received and close purchase orders
  • Ability to send parts for refurbishment
  • Ability to pick up emergency parts from local vendors
  • Ability to put away supplies
  • Ability to assign tools from Tool Room and document within CMMS/ERP

Responsibilities

  • Source and purchase MRO parts, supplies, and services to support plant operations.
  • Obtain and evaluate vendor quotations, pricing, and lead times.
  • Create and manage purchase orders in the ERP/CMMS system.
  • Expedite critical orders to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Negotiate pricing, payment terms, and service agreements with suppliers.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with vendors and service providers.
  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels for spare parts and consumables.
  • Establish and manage minimum and maximum inventory levels.
  • Monitor inventory usage and adjust stocking levels as needed.
  • Conduct regular cycle counts.
  • Identify obsolete inventory and develop plans for disposition.
  • Ensure inventory records are accurate and up to date.
  • Work closely with Maintenance and Engineering teams to identify critical spare parts.
  • Support planned shutdowns, preventive maintenance activities, and capital projects by ensuring materials are available.
  • Track long-lead-time items and communicate status updates to stakeholders.
  • Assist in developing spare parts strategies for new equipment installations.
  • Evaluate supplier performance regarding quality, delivery, and cost.
  • Coordinate vendor visits and service activities as required.
  • Maintain vendor records, contracts, and certifications.
  • Identify alternative suppliers to reduce risk and improve service levels.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce inventory costs and improve parts availability.
  • Standardize parts and suppliers where practical.
  • Participate in reliability and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support CMMS and ERP data accuracy efforts.
  • Report food safety and quality problems to personnel with the authority to initiate action.
  • Create and close work orders in a timely manner by filling in times and details (Labor hours, parts used and breakdown notes).
  • Run reports when requested.
  • Document all packing slips and turn them into accounts payable.
  • Confirm that all parts are received and close purchase orders in CMMS/ERP.
  • Send out parts to be refurbished when requested.
  • Pick up emergency parts from local vendors when requested.
  • Put away supplies in stock room or crib.
  • Assign tools from Tool Room, and document within CMMS/ERP.
  • All other duties as assigned by department management.
