The MRI Technologist performs all MRI scans, demonstrating anatomy under investigation through proper patient positioning, technique selection, administration of contrast media, and application of immobilization and radiation protection devices according to department policy and procedures. They receive consultation requests, check for special instructions from the requesting physician, and consult with the Radiologist as necessary. The technologist will pleasantly greet patients, confirm their identification, introduce themselves, and completely explain the examination procedure to the patient and their family. They will review all MRI safety procedures with patients, family, and non-MRI associates. Additionally, they update patient examination history files, record unusual conditions/limitations, document examination time, technique factors, and contrast media injections. They complete examination, consultation, and billing procedures as required, and perform other paperwork as needed. The role also involves maintaining necessary inventory of supplies for the assigned room or workstation, rotating stock, and eliminating outdated items. Staff members will have knowledge of human growth and development through the life span of the patient and the ability to meet the needs of and provide care for these patients across various age categories: Neonatal/Infant (0-11 months), Pediatrics (1-12 years), Adolescence (13-17 years), Young Adult/Adult (18-64 years), Adult/Middle-Aged (65-79 years), and Geriatric (80+ years). Patients will be transported as needed.
