About The Position

As an MRI Technologist at UPMC, you will play a critical role in ensuring accurate and safe imaging procedures for patients. Your expertise and attention to detail are essential for exceptional patient care and efficient department operations. The role involves maintaining proficiency in operating MRI equipment, performing high-quality MRI scans with precision and attention to patient safety, and staying updated on technological advancements. You will be responsible for proper patient identification, following universal protocol guidelines, reviewing patient history, and assessing physician orders to tailor protocols for optimal data acquisition. Administering contrast agents and documenting patient history in electronic records are also key tasks. Collaboration with physicians includes presenting relevant patient information before exams and following established protocols. Administrative duties encompass coding and tracking exams using the RIS system, updating patient information in Rad Assessment, networking exams to ISITE for archiving and interpretation, and accurately entering charges. Adherence to MR safety guidelines and protocols is crucial for maintaining a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors. Effective communication, interacting compassionately with patients and colleagues, and explaining procedures clearly to alleviate patient anxiety are vital. You will also work seamlessly with other departments to expedite patient care, contribute to a positive team culture, and efficiently review, process, and archive MRI images.

Requirements

Graduate of an ARRT approved school of Radiologic Technology, or completion of an accredited CNMT, ARMRIT or ARDMS program
ARRT registry eligible technologist must obtain ARRT within 6 months of hire date
MR registry must be acquired within 18 months of the date the primary registry was acquired or date of hire if primary registry is already obtained
CNMT, ARDMS and ARMRIT graduates must obtain MR registry within 12 months of hire date
CPR or BLS Required within 30 days of hire
ARRT Certificate OR Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification (NMTC) OR Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS)
Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

Responsibilities

Maintain proficiency in operating MRI equipment and stay updated on technological advancements
Perform high-quality MRI scans with precision and attention to patient safety
Properly identify patients using two identifiers
Follow universal protocol guidelines during procedures to prevent errors
Review patient history and assess physician orders to tailor protocols for optimal data acquisition
Administer contrast agents as needed and document patient history in electronic records
Present relevant patient information to physicians before starting exams
Follow established protocols to ensure accurate and efficient imaging
Code and track all exams within your responsibility using the RIS system
Update and document patient information in Rad Assessment
Network exams to ISITE for archiving and interpretation
Enter charges accurately for performed exams
Adhere to MR safety guidelines and protocols
Maintain a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors
Interact compassionately with patients and colleagues
Explain procedures clearly to alleviate patient anxiety and encourage cooperation
Work seamlessly with other departments to expedite patient care
Contribute to a positive team culture within the department
Review, process, and archive MRI images efficiently

$20,000 Sign-On Bonus (with 2-year commitment, for external and eligible candidates)
$9,000 Monthly Loan Repayment program (paid over three years, for December 2023 and later graduates, eligible flex full-time roles to receive prorated amount of $6,300)
