About The Position

The MRI Technologist works under the supervision of the Radiology Manager. They are responsible for scheduling MRI examinations, ensuring patient safety, receiving and reviewing patient requisitions, positioning patients for MRI imaging, administering I.V. contrast media, performing MRI imaging examinations, and discharging patients. The role may also involve performing Radiology Assistant duties when needed and other assigned tasks. This position requires the ability to provide care and service appropriate to the age of the patients served. The technologist must be MRI Board Certified (ART Certified).

Requirements

  • MRI Board Certified (ART Certified)
  • Associates Degree or higher education
  • Registered Radiologic Technologist (R-RT)
  • BLS/CPR through the American Heart Association

Responsibilities

  • Schedules MRI examinations
  • Assures patient safety
  • Receives and reviews patient requisitions
  • Positions patients for MRI imaging
  • Administers I.V. contrast media
  • Performs MRI imaging examinations
  • Discharges patients
  • Performs the Radiology Assistant's duties when needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Explains examination to the patient and obtains a patient medical history
  • Provides patient immobilization devices
  • Enters patient identification information computer system
  • Selects computer parameters in accordance with department protocols
  • Performs MRI imaging according to established procedure
  • Reviews MRI images during for optimal image quality and sends images to the PACS system
  • Selects the appropriate contrast media
  • Prepares I.V contrast administration to established protocol
  • Explains contrast administration procedure to the patient
  • Follows universal precautions policy
  • Adheres to medication reconciliation guidelines
  • Cleans MRI equipment and accessories
  • Orders supplies from hospital store room
  • Coordinates time of MRI examination with other imaging modalities
  • Performs daily scanner calibration tests
  • Assists in cross-training of future MRI technologists
  • Performs the Radiology Assistant duties in the absence of personnel
  • Obtains inpatient and outpatient orders from the information system
  • Reviews order requests for diagnosis and appropriate exam indication
  • Arranges daily work schedule to accommodate emergent and inpatient MRI requests
  • Assists Central Scheduling with scheduling outpatient MRI examinations
  • Obtains appropriate indications for requested MRI examinations
  • Coordinates MRI examinations with other radiology examinations
  • Works with Central Scheduling with scheduling sedation patients
