Under the direction of a radiologist, with minimum supervision, maintain the daily function of the MRI department. The MRI technologist must initiate the correct protocol for scanning the requested anatomy with minimal supervision. This includes preparing the patient for the exam, explaining the procedure, reviewing screening forms for contraindications, and preparing the room and scanner equipment. The technologist will advise and explain the MRI examination procedure to the patient, including the possibility of intravenous contrast injection. They will safely transfer the patient to the MRI scanner table, prepare for and administer intravenous injections if needed, and initiate scanning protocols. The technologist will display scans for the radiologist, adjust parameters, monitor the patient's condition, and manage scanner system errors. They will transfer scans to PACs, film as necessary, and prepare materials for referring physicians. Additionally, the technologist must maintain familiarity with life support equipment, monitor patients during and post-injection, and be able to perform transfers and monitor special attention patients. They must be able to react quickly to emergency situations and maintain CPR certification. Other duties include rotating call, working various shifts, lifting, pushing, reaching, bending, stooping, walking, maintaining cleanliness, cooperating with personnel, and accepting non-routine assignments.
