The MRI Technologist Lead is responsible for the supervision of all services to meet department standards of care and/or respond to demand by the customer or referring physicians. This role involves monitoring technical competence of staff, resolving patient and physician complaints, managing staff schedules, critiquing student performance, issuing holiday schedules, assigning after-hours trauma call, maintaining records for the Quality Assurance program, reviewing patient schedules for satisfaction, responding to nursing units and outpatient scheduling regarding add-ons, and preparing and implementing employee training plans. The lead also orders and maintains department supplies, ensures equipment is clean and in working order, and performs diagnostic tests as a staff technologist when required. Additionally, the role focuses on developing and maintaining an environment conducive to employee satisfaction, including preparing orientation programs, developing training plans, participating in staff in-servicing, following up on suggestions to improve exam quality, adjusting staffing, approving hours worked, conducting staff meetings, preparing performance reviews, monitoring safety and maintenance of department areas and equipment, and working with other departments for complex exams. The lead is also responsible for ensuring equipment repairs and maintaining preventative maintenance schedules, assisting in negotiating service contracts, and reviewing service reports. Furthermore, the position assists in the development, interpretation, and monitoring of department policies, budgets, and strategic plans, and enforces hospital-wide policies. Maintaining technical, organizational, and communication skills, including attending classes and workshops, and utilizing CQI methods are essential. The lead also ensures compliance with Accrediting Organization and Department Safety standards, including radiation safety, disaster policies, and universal/infectious safety procedures, and monitors staff compliance with mandatory in-service programs and licensure/certification. Finally, the lead provides patient care specific to procedural requirements and patient needs, responds to complaints, coordinates multiple exams, maintains patient confidentiality, and provides transportation when needed.
