About The Position

Assists technologists to insure efficient workflow and optimal patient care. This role involves confirming scheduled exams, verifying patient data, interviewing patients to explain procedures and ensure safety compliance, positioning patients, and preparing scan rooms. The assistant also handles tasks such as creating Viewer and DICOM CDs, importing DICOM CDs, and maintaining a safe work area according to ACR guidelines. Additional responsibilities include assisting during breast biopsies and other duties as assigned by management. Flexibility for occasional meetings and training outside regular hours is expected.

Requirements

  • Six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Phlebotomy/venipuncture experience including the ability to start IV’s and perform angio-cath injections.
  • Possess basic medical terminology knowledge in order to obtain thorough medical histories.
  • Certification in CPR and Blood Borne Pathogens.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance Instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Must Be able to communicate effectively with the patients and understand their response.
  • Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Responsibilities

  • Confirms scheduled exam and requesting physician are consistent with order.
  • Verifies correct patient data and correct exam is being performed by reviewing patients order form from referring physician.
  • Interviews patients to explain MRI procedures, obtain pertinent exam and to verify the safety requirements have been met for metal objects and implants which may be hazardous to the patient and/or equipment.
  • Positions patients on scanner table and places specified coil over area of interest, confirms patients’ comfort and confirms operation of emergency bulb with patient.
  • Gains IV access as needed for contrast injections – does NOT inject contrast.
  • Has the ability to make both Viewer and DICOM CD using current cd burning software.
  • Import DICOM CD’s to expedite dictation.
  • Displays competency with RIS and PACS systems.
  • Maintains safe work area according to ACR White Paper on MR Safety.
  • Ability to work independently and in team/group situations.
  • Check and stock scan rooms and patient prep rooms.
  • Check and document fire extinguisher and eye wash stations (monthly).
  • Laundry – completed (washed/dried/put away), not left for next day.
  • Assisting during breast biopsies.
  • Other duties deemed necessary by Chief Tech and technologists.
  • Attendance at meetings and training sessions may be required. These sessions could occasionally be scheduled outside of your regular working hours to accommodate business needs and training opportunities.
