About The Position

The MRI Tech 1 arranges patients for Magnetic Resonance examinations. Working under the guidance of MRI Tech 2 or above, this role produces MR images to aid in the diagnosis of medical problems. The MRI technologist monitors and ensures the safety of patients and all personnel prior to entering the magnetic area. They perform patient screening by using established protocols for any ferrous materials and medical device history, and for the safe administration of contrast media. The technologist uses pre-established imaging protocols and departmental policy to perform safe operation of imaging equipment and all functions of the job. They also provide complete pre and post education to patients and families. This position reports to a Manager or Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) program or Radiologic Technology program
  • American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT) or American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT-R)
  • Louisiana State Radiologic Technology (LSRT) license (or current temporary license)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS-HCP)
  • No experience required

Responsibilities

  • Utilize Radiologic/MRI principles and theory, anatomy and pathology processes, employing the most appropriate technique and/or positioning for optimal examinations.
  • Adhere to policies and protocols to ensure all examinations are optimized for interpretation.
  • Teach sound radiography principles to Radiography students as required by the Organization.
  • Effectively communicate with patients to obtain clinical history/informed consent to assist the physician in optimizing the performance and interpretation of the examination.
  • Explain procedures to patients/families and answer questions to ease anxiety and assure patient cooperation.
  • Assist the physician in performing a variety of examinations using standard department protocols, isolation precautions, and/or sterile technique.
  • Identify clinical and/or emergent problems that may interfere with exams and take appropriate action to resolve them.
  • Demonstrate patient safety in the department by using side rails, braking mechanisms, and patient monitoring.
  • Report, document, and correct any adverse, unsafe, or unusual conditions.
  • Demonstrate understanding of IV's, heparin locks, and central line usage as they pertain to Computed Tomography.
  • Maintain an orderly, safe, and clean environment, ensuring rooms are stocked with appropriate supplies readily available for procedures.
  • Operate imaging and other related equipment according to manufacturer's specifications and perform daily calibration and adjustments as required.
  • Troubleshoot equipment effectively and immediately, reporting equipment problems to biomedical engineering/vendor.
  • Perform/recognize the need for routine maintenance of all MRI equipment to maintain consistent quality images.
  • Correctly identify patients and their files, ensuring a high degree of accuracy.
  • Track patients according to department procedures, identify errors, and take immediate action for corrections.
  • Participate in department/hospital performance improvement initiatives, in-services, and meetings.
  • Maintain the safety and integrity of the magnetic environment at all times.
  • Conduct regular inspections of all coil and scanning accessories.
  • Demonstrate patient safety in the department and magnetic suite by using appropriate screening techniques.
  • Act as a backup for other technologists in the department as needed.
  • Complete additional duties correctly and appropriately within the specified time frame as required by managers/supervisors.
