About The Position

The Magnetic Resonance Imaging (M.R.I.) Technologist provides accurate and precise M.R.I. scans to assist in patient diagnosis and treatment under the direct supervision of the attending Radiologist. Under the direction of the Admin Director of Imaging and Physical Therapy, and in consultation with the Medical Director, the M.R.I. Technologist performs professional duties involved in a variety of Magnetic Resonance Imaging exams. Is responsible for the assessment, treatment or care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Demonstrates the ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of the patients needs. Possesses knowledge of growth and development and has an understanding of the range of treatment needed for all patient groups. Responsible for magnet safety practices and screening of all patients and employees who enter magnet area. On call responsibilities required. If Technologist is trained in multiple modalities, (C.T., M.R.I., Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine, Diagnostic Radiology), on call responsibilities will be assumed for two of the aforementioned modalities during the call period. Example: (Ultrasound/Nuclear medicine or C.T./Radiography). Must be able to work normal/scheduled working hours to include Holidays, call-backs, weeknights, weekends, and on-call. Agrees to participate, as directed, in emergencies and community disasters during scheduled and unscheduled hours. As a designated disaster service worker you are required to assist in times of need pursuant to the California Emergency Services Act. (Gov’t. Code §§ 3100, 3102) Needs to recognize that they have an affirmative duty and responsibility for reporting perceived misconduct, including actual or potential violations of laws, regulations, policies, procedures, or this organization’s standards/code of conduct. The employee shall work well under pressure, meet multiple and sometimes competing deadlines; and the incumbent shall at all times demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors. Must maintain an environment of cohesiveness and teamwork.

Requirements

  • One (1) year M.R.I. experience is required.
  • Must have and maintain current BLS Card, required.
  • Must have and maintain IV certification or obtain within three (3) months of assignment to department.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence if required.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages if required.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Basic computer skills.

Nice To Haves

  • ARMRIT, or equal, certification preferred.
  • CRT preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operates M.R.I. scanner, selecting proper technical factors for each exam, maintains high image quality, ensuring images are filmed in proper sequence and submitted correctly, the Synapse P.A.C.S. System, including applicable notes and worksheets.
  • Provides magnet safety to patient by obtaining proper history concerning possible ferromagnetic foreign bodies.
  • Provides magnet safety to employees who are authorized to enter the scan room and assists in giving in-services on magnet safety.
  • Assists Radiologist and R.N. in administering IV sedation or gadolinium, if needed.
  • Inserts IV catheters and administers gadolinium under supervision of Radiologist.
  • Keeps work area clean and orderly. Reports and documents equipment malfunction to supervisor.
  • Inventories supplies and notifies supervisor, ensures appropriate levels of supplies available when needed.
  • Assists in cross training of new employees in M.R.I.
  • Demonstrates ability to deviate from normal procedure and improve techniques for obtaining diagnostic exams in emergencies and unusual situations.
  • Capable of recognizing a diagnostically, acceptable exam and consistently producing M.R.I. scans of the same quality.
  • Understands and demonstrates utilization of the Synapse P.A.C.S. System.
  • Notifies on radiologists of exams requiring STAT readings during and after normal business hours. Sends exams requiring Teleradiology reads in a timely manner to Teleradiology Company. Scan returned reports ino Teleradiology system.
