About The Position

Under the supervision of the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MR) Supervisor, the Lead MR Technologist is responsible for patient flow and the coordination of scheduling needs of the MR area. Oversees technical personnel in assigned work areas. Performs various MR procedures on patients using advanced MRI protocols and pulse sequences. This includes transferal of images, archiving, and performing of appropriate scanning protocols. Communicates with supervisor any unresolved issues, troubleshoots equipment, and records reports problems. Works under guidance of Radiologists and participates in resident training program. Offers suggestions for improving inter and intra departmental operations. Treats patients, staff, physicians and the general public in a friendly, courteous and helpful manner. Incorporates the concepts of the Mission and Vision into practice.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Three (3) years of related experience
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with widely diverse groups, including individuals at all levels both within and outside the organization and gain their cooperation
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions
  • Ability to perform complex diagnostic imaging procedures
  • Ability to perform general and specialized MRI procedures which meet the department’s standard of quality
  • Ability to troubleshoot, document and communicate equipment problems
  • Ability to work effectively as a team player
  • Knowledge of anatomy, physiology and congenital/acquired pathology as they relate to the use and interpretation of MRI exams
  • Knowledge of computer systems and software used in functional area
  • Knowledge of techniques, methods, equipment, and methods of positioning patients for MRI procedures
  • Knowledge of safety principles and procedures related to MRI and equipment
  • CRT or ARRT - Radiology Tech License or ARMRIT - Amer Reg Mag Imaging Res Tech

Responsibilities

  • Ensures that equipment and accessories are maintained and functioning.
  • Notifies supervisor of equipment problems and service calls placed.
  • Notifies appropriate personnel of supply requirements; makes recommendations concerning the purchase, maintenance and/or repair of equipment.
  • Ensures timecards are completed accurately and on time according to departmental and hospital policy.
  • Keeps abreast and demonstrates awareness of legal requirements, risk management issues and accreditation standards by reporting unusual occurrences involving customers, environment and/or self within correct timeframes and involves the appropriate individuals and/or completes necessary forms (incident employee accident report, etc.).
  • Oversees daily work flow, work assignments and meal breaks for staff, operational effectiveness, human resources and the resolution of technical and nontechnical problems for an assigned shift.
  • Participates in orientation and training of assigned staff, students, residents and faculty.
  • Performs routine MR exams and specialized MR exams.
  • Maintains high degree of exam quality (proper Field of View, protocol, name and MRN - Medical Record Number).
  • Reports problems concerning staffing requirements, work methods, staff morale, etc., and recommends solutions as appropriate to supervisor.
  • Coordinates with personnel of other departments with regard to patient and/or staff related problems.
  • Understands billing process; assures correct informational codes are included for procedures performed, assists with credit cancel requests.
  • Assists schedulers, radiologists and referring physicians with scheduling of urgent or difficult MRI exams.
