About The Position

Atrium Health Floyd is seeking an MRI Device Navigator to join their team. This full-time position is responsible for maintaining the knowledge base for all MRI protocols, understanding device management parameters for various field strengths and magnet types, and investigating new devices. The role involves managing a work queue to identify patients with implanted devices, performing work-ups to ensure safe scanning, and triaging patients based on urgency. The MRI Device Navigator will determine device classifications, assess safety parameters in collaboration with the MRMD and Electrophysiology service line, and provide feedback for scheduling. A key responsibility is completing the "Device Navigation Report" for all patients and serving as a market resource for MRI Technologists, Radiologists, and Providers regarding implanted device management. The position also supports Radiology Administration and MRI leaders in protocol development, policy creation, and serves as a resource for safety events.

Requirements

  • ARRT certification in Radiologic Technology or Nuclear Medicine (including NMTCB) with advanced ARRT or ARMRIT certification in MRI.
  • MRSO (Magnetic Resonance Safety Officer) required. If not MRSO certified upon hiring, candidates will be given one year to obtain certification.
  • BLS required.
  • Graduate of an AMA approved Radiologic Technology or Nuclear Medicine Certificate, associate degree program.
  • Five years of experience in MRI with demonstrated skillset in the gamut of MRI exams.
  • Experience and knowledge of implanted device management in the MRI setting must be demonstrated.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the knowledge base for all MRI protocols performed within the market to include sites/locations that have specific expertise (i.e., Cardiac MRI, Level I, II, and III Trauma, fMRI, etc.)
  • Maintain an understanding of the parameters for device management with all field strengths and magnet types (1.5T, 3.0T field strength and open versus closed magnets).
  • Pursue and investigate new devices released to the market, aging devices considered for MRI scanning, along with ACR and TJC standards for device management on an ongoing basis.
  • Manage the established work queue to identify MRI scan patients with implanted devices (pacemakers, spine stimulators, etc.)
  • Carry-out the work-up process required to ensure the patient can be safely managed and scanned in the MRI setting.
  • Once approved, move the patient to the scheduling queue.
  • Triage patients within the work queue to include prioritization for STAT/Urgent versus routine In-patients and Urgent versus routine Out-patients.
  • Working with the on-site scanning technologists, strive to maintain efficient workflow within various clinical settings.
  • Determine whether the device is in the “conditional” or “non-conditional” classification for MRI while identifying the manufacturer, age, and type of device.
  • Working with the MRMD and Electrophysiology service line as needed, assess the safety parameters of the device for MRI and determine the patient's eligibility for a safe, diagnostic MRI exam.
  • Based on the type of device and resources required for a safe exam, provide feedback to the scheduling team regarding triage to the appropriate location/department for the patient's appointment.
  • Complete the “Device Navigation Report” for all patients and ensure this information is included with the patients order that will be used by the scanning technologists.
  • Include in detail all relevant information pertaining to the device.
  • Serve as a market resource for MRI Technologists, Radiologists, and Providers for inquiries regarding the management of implanted devices within the MRI setting.
  • Support Radiology Administration and MRI leaders in the development of MRI protocols, device safety parameters, and affiliated policies and procedures.
  • Serve as a resource for facility Safety Officers, Risk Management, Quality, and other entities pertaining to the investigation of MRI safety events as needed.
