About The Position

The Security Officer helps maintain a safe and secure campus environment by patrolling assigned university facilities, identifying security risks, enforcing university policies, and responding to incidents. Working closely with BYU Police and other campus partners, this position protects people and property while supporting emergency response efforts. Assignments may include Building Security, the Museum of Art (MOA), Mission Training Center (MTC), Harold B. Lee Library (HBLL), Broadcasting Building (BYUB), Motion Picture Studios (MPS), and the Goshen Facility.

Requirements

  • A firm commitment to the mission of BYU.
  • High school diploma or GED
  • U.S. citizenship
  • Valid Utah driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Ability to pass a comprehensive background investigation
  • Ability to maintain department physical fitness standards
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, including evenings, overnight shifts, weekends, holidays, and in all weather conditions
  • Working knowledge of security practices, emergency response procedures, and applicable federal, state, and local laws
  • Proficiency with radios, security equipment, first aid equipment, and computer systems
  • Strong judgment, professionalism, and the ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in high-pressure situations
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and conflict resolution skills

Nice To Haves

  • Previous security or law enforcement experience
  • Supervisory or field training experience
  • Knowledge of crime prevention principles and university security operations

Responsibilities

  • Patrol and inspect assigned areas and surrounding locations for security risks and safety concerns
  • Enforce university security policies and procedures
  • Identify suspicious or criminal activity and coordinate with BYU Police
  • Assist sworn officers and respond to security-related calls for service
  • Initiate and support emergency response efforts
  • Monitor and operate electronic and physical security systems
  • Complete accurate reports and documentation
  • Promote a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors
