About The Position

Sarasota County is seeking a hands-on individual who enjoys working outdoors to join their Public Works team as a Mowing Trades Worker. This role is crucial in maintaining the landscaping of Sarasota County, ensuring it remains a premier place to live, work, and play. Responsibilities include a variety of landscaping tasks from cutting grass and mulching to planting trees and performing right-of-way maintenance. Requirements

A High School Diploma or equivalent - OR- the ability to obtain a GED within six (6) months from the time of hire
One year of experience in landscaping, contract mowing, or landscape grounds maintenance
A valid Florida Driver's License at the time of hire
Must frequently lift and/or move more than 50 pounds
May be required to lift and move concrete bags weighing 60 pounds
Subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five years

Nice To Haves

Ability to operate and perform general maintenance on a variety of landscape equipment and small engine repairs

Responsibilities

Right-of-Way mowing, edging, and string trimming
Safely operate and fuel a variety of landscape equipment including gas-powered string trimmers, stick edgers, pole saws, backpack blowers, chainsaws, commercial grade pick-up trucks, trailers, 4-wheel drive utility carts, and other miscellaneous small hand-operated landscape maintenance tools
Perform small-engine repairs, safety checks, and routine maintenance on the department equipment using pneumatic, power, and hand tools
Utilize and follow diagrams, maps, written instructions, and blueprints to install landscaping or perform right-of-way maintenance
Perform right-of-way maintenance work that includes hand weeding, mulching, digging, turf trimming, tree trimming, collection and disposal of litter, removal or installation of plant materials and trees
