About The Position

The Equipment Operator operates heavy equipment of various types to remove branches and tree material from electrical lines. This role involves ensuring safe practices, preparing equipment, operating machinery as directed, and assisting with maintenance and repairs. The operator will also support other crew members, manage debris cleanup, set up safety barriers, and stay informed about new equipment and company policies. Mileage tracking and storm work duties are also part of the responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Prior heavy equipment operating experience in electric utility vegetation management, construction, logging, landscaping, mechanical, or military industries preferred.
  • High School diploma or education equivalent preferred.
  • Knowledgeable about the daily maintenance and safe operations of all equipment used.
  • Possess physical strength and good balance to climb into and around mobile equipment.
  • Able to enter and exit a vehicle numerous times a day.
  • Able to work outdoors under varying and sometimes adverse weather conditions.
  • Able to hear verbal instructions from a distance.
  • Able to obtain and maintain first-aid certification and CPR.
  • Able to wear necessary personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Good vision and attentiveness.
  • Must have and maintain a Driver’s License if hired for a driving position.
  • Must have and maintain a CDL and DOT Medical Card to operate any truck over 26,000 lbs.
  • Able to write, read and comprehend written and verbal job instructions/information.
  • Able to maintain balance over uneven terrain.
  • Able to communicate with others.
  • Endurance necessary to perform duties throughout a standard eight or ten hour day.
  • Able to travel out of town for storm restoration work when needed.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and drug screen.
  • Must meet I-9 requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Operate equipment as directed by the Foreperson.
  • Maintain and repair equipment and tools.
  • Assist other crew members in daily activities.
  • Take a leadership role when required.
  • Clean up and dispose of all debris.
  • Set up barriers, warning signs, flags, and markers.
  • Stay informed on new equipment, specifications, standard practices, operating procedures, and company policies.
  • Track and report mileage to the Foreperson.
  • Perform duties for storm work as needed.
