About The Position

Movement Matters leaders will teach seated dance classes to retirement communities throughout the greater Boston area. This role requires a student to be enrolled at Berklee College of Music or Boston Conservatory at Berklee, at least half-time in a degree-seeking program, and have a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA. Students in their first semester are eligible to work even without an official GPA. Federal Work Study students are welcome to apply. The position requires the student to be in good disciplinary standing and located in the U.S. with a valid U.S. Social Security Number and valid Visa status.

Requirements

• Current student at Berklee College of Music or Boston Conservatory at Berklee.
• Enrolled at least half-time in a degree, diploma, or certificate-seeking undergraduate or graduate program (summer exception: must be pre-registered for the upcoming fall semester).
• Have a valid United States Social Security Number (SSN).
• Remain in “valid” Visa status as applicable.
• A minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA (first-semester students are exempt until completion of their first semester).
• In good disciplinary standing.
• Must be located in the U.S.
• Must be a 3rd or 4th year Theater/Dance major.
• Must complete a minimum of one semester as a volunteer teaching assistant for Movement Matters, or have relevant experience.
• Must know the general structure of a seated movement class.
• Demonstrate enthusiasm for the project, a solid understanding of the curricular goals, and both the commitment and maturity to independently teach classes while serving as an ”ambassador“ for the Conservatory in the wider Boston community.

Responsibilities

• Teach between 4 and 10 Movement Matters classes each semester.
• Attend training workshops to learn new curriculum as needed.
• Supervise volunteer teaching assistants who are assigned to class sessions.
• Independently adjust/arrange schedules with other instructors if conflicts with assigned classes arise.
• Regularly report via email on class sizes, volunteer attendance, and general impressions of class ambiance/success.
