About The Position

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Structural Analysis Engineer to join the GM Motorsports team. GM competes across NASCAR, IndyCar, IMSA, and Formula 1, delivering performance through advanced engineering and data‑driven innovation. In this role, you will partner closely with design engineers to perform structural analysis using fundamental theory, finite element analysis (FEA), and optimization techniques to develop robust, weight‑efficient components and assemblies. You will prepare and present technical reports, evaluate load cases for design and analysis, and provide hands‑on support within the Additive Lab, including pre‑processing, post‑processing, maintenance, and scheduling activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in automotive, motorsports, or aerospace industries.
  • Academic understanding of composite and metallic structures.
  • Strong grasp of FEA theory.
  • Experience with FE pre‑/post‑processing tools.
  • Basic proficiency with a CAD system.
  • Experience in additive manufacturing.
  • Ability to manage multiple programs simultaneously.
  • Strong problem‑solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Passion for motorsports and a drive to contribute to team success.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Altair HyperMesh/OptiStruct , Abaqus, CATIA, or 3DX.
  • Familiarity with composite draping simulation tools (e.g., Laminate Tools).
  • Experience with structural optimization.
  • Experience with SLA and FDM additive manufacturing processes.
  • Proficiency in GrabCAD or other ADM slicing software.

Responsibilities

  • Apply structural engineering principles and FE pre‑/post‑processing skills to evaluate component performance.
  • Interpret and work with solids, surfaces, complex assemblies, and technical drawings.
  • Support Additive Lab operations through hands-on involvement.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross‑functional program teams.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical capability, customer focus, and a structured, detail‑oriented approach.
  • Thrive in a fast‑paced environment while maintaining strong communication and relationship‑building skills.
  • Manage multiple tasks efficiently with a high degree of integrity and work ethic.
