About The Position

This position is in Supply Chain Management (SCM) in a Veteran Affairs Health Care System (VA HCS) and supported catchment area. The primary purpose of this position is transporting Veterans, visitors, staff and supplies and equipment from the main warehouse to various locations at an assigned Veterans Administration medical facility and any additional location, i.e., Outpatient Clinic(s), National Cemetery, and VA Regional office, as needed.

Requirements

  • All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
  • Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • You may be required to serve a probationary period.
  • Subject to background/security investigation.
  • Pre-employment physical required.
  • Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
  • Must possess a valid Class C drivers license.
  • Experience in the safe transportation of eligible passengers and cargo.
  • Experience operating and providing preventive maintenance for patient transport vehicles.
  • Experience operating multi-passenger, wheelchair equipped vans.
  • Knowledge of how to manipulate the controls for starting-stopping, backing and driving the vehicle in all types of traffic and road conditions.
  • Familiarity with National Department of Transportation and interstate policies governing motor vehicle operations.
  • Well versed in every aspect of patient safety during transport.
  • Ability to recognize hazardous conditions and change routes to avoid them.

Responsibilities

  • Receive work assignment and direction regarding work methods, procedures and schedules from either the Transportation Coordinator and/or the Mobility Manager.
  • Arrive at and depart from pickup and discharge points at scheduled times.
  • Reading installation maps and judge road/traffic conditions to determine the shortest and safest route.
  • Enforce passenger safety and seatbelt use.
  • Using multiple variations of Mobile Data Computer (MDC) in and out of the vehicles for assigned trips and duties daily.
  • Loading and unloading patients and medical supplies.
  • Perform operator maintenance such as checking fluid levels and air pressure in tires, cleaning and washing of vehicles, and performing inspection checklists to ensure safe and proper operation.
  • Maintain records and document actions, such as operator inspection checklists/forms and accident/incident reports.
  • Use a two-way radio (or other device) to maintain communicate with dispatcher/supervisor on assignments and locations.
  • Possess a Class C drivers license.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
