The Motor Vehicle Mechanic performs a variety of repairs and services to maintain motor vehicles, duties that require an understanding of intermediate vehicle maintenance. This role involves repairing, rebuilding, or overhauling major assemblies of internal combustion automobiles, including military vehicles. The mechanic will diagnose system malfunctions, isolate causes, and determine the extent of repairs required. Responsibilities include replacing worn or broken parts, grinding and adjusting valves, overhauling transmissions, and repairing fuel injection, lighting, and ignition systems. The mechanic will also dismantle and reassemble equipment using Technical Manuals, lifting devices, hand and pneumatic tools, ensuring all work complies with applicable Technical Manuals and Army regulations. The position may involve directing workers in cleaning parts and assisting with assembly/disassembly, and recommending revisions to maintenance procedures to improve efficiency and quality.
