About The Position
Under general supervision, the Motor Vehicle Mechanic repairs, rebuilds, or overhauls major assemblies of internal combustion automobiles, buses, trucks, or tractors. May also be required to diagnose, repair, and maintain fractional-horsepower engines. This position requires well rounded training and experience usually acquired through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent.
Requirements
- High School diploma, GED required
- Formal apprenticeship or equivalent training/experience
- Minimum experience required 1-3 years.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, and to respond to questions from vendors, customers and management
- Comply with PRIDE’s safety program and adhere to proper safety practices
- Valid driver’s license required for this position at most work sites.
- The incumbent must maintain an acceptable driving record while in this position.
Responsibilities
- Diagnosing the source of trouble and determining the extent of repairs required.
- Repairs gasoline and diesel engines used to power lawnmowers, garden tractors, weed whackers, chainsaws, blowers, chippers, edgers, snow removal equipment and similar tools/equipment.
- Uses hand tools, locates causes of trouble, dismantles engines, and inspects/examines parts for defects.
- Replaces or repairs worn or broken parts, such as piston rings and bearings, thermostats, electrical wiring, or other engine parts.
- Grinding and adjusting valves; rebuilding carburetors; overhauling transmissions.
- Repairing fuel injection, lighting, and ignition systems.
- Rotates, repairs, and replaces tires.
- Drains, flushes, and replaces engine transmission, and differential grease and oils.
- Checks, cleans, calibrates, and replaces spark plugs.
- Cleans and replaces oil and air filters.
- Adjust brakes, replaces windshield wipers, and similar minor parts.
- Maintain tools and equipment, and clean work areas.
- Other duties as assigned.
