About The Position

Bowhead seeks a Heavy Equipment Mechanic with HVAC experience to join our team in support of the Maintenance and Supply Divisions at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Aberdeen, MD. The Maintenance Division Motor Vehicle Mechanic/HVAC performs a combination of tasks to support departmental operations. Typical duties include rebuilding and repairing major assemblies of internal combustion automobiles, buses, trucks or tractors. This position is governed by a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), and employees are required to join after beginning employment.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • At least two (2+) years’ experience as a motor vehicle mechanic and HVAC repair technician.
  • Qualified and certified in accordance with Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technicians’ EPA Certification standards for the equipment and material being utilized.
  • Must possess a valid state-issued CDL and be able to obtain/maintain a forklift license.
  • Basic to intermediate level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team.
  • Must be able to obtain a security clearance at the Public Trust level.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.

Responsibilities

  • Provides air conditioning/refrigeration maintenance and repair services.
  • Provides for correct operation of refrigerant dispensing and recovery equipment as well as proper record keeping in accordance with 40 CFR, Part 82 and applicable federal, state, and APG regulations and directives.
  • Repairs, rebuilds, or overhauls major assemblies of internal combustion automobiles, buses, trucks or tractors.
  • Diagnoses the source of trouble and determines the extent of repairs required.
  • Replaces worn or broken parts such as piston rings, bearings, or other engine parts.
  • Grinds and adjusts valves.
  • Rebuilds carburetors.
  • Overhauls transmissions.
  • Repairs fuel injection, lighting, and ignition systems.
  • Other duties as assigned.
