About The Position

The Motor Vehicle Mechanic Helper assists with vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair under the supervision of a Motor Vehicle Mechanic. The role includes following inspection checklists, interpreting diagnostic test results, performing routine maintenance, and helping inspect and repair vehicles and equipment. It also involves raising trucks, buses, and heavy parts or equipment with hydraulic jacks or hoists, and mounting and dismounting tires. Other duties may be assigned by the Workleader or Vehicle Fleet Manager.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Valid Ohio State driver’s license.
• Ability to obtain a security clearance for military base access.
• Basic knowledge of standard practices in motor vehicle repair and maintenance.
• Basic knowledge of safety issues related to tools and equipment used in motor vehicle repair and maintenance.

Nice To Haves

• Three to six months of general vehicle repair and maintenance experience is preferred.
• Mechanical aptitude may be accepted in place of experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist with maintenance and repair activities under the supervision of the Motor Vehicle Mechanic.
• Follow inspection procedure checklists.
• Read and interpret diagnostic test results.
• Raise trucks, buses, and heavy parts or equipment using hydraulic jacks or hoists.
• Perform routine maintenance on vehicles and/or equipment.
• Assist with inspections as directed by the Motor Vehicle Mechanic.
• Repair or replace malfunctioning components, parts, or equipment.
• Dismount and mount tires.
• Perform other duties as directed by the Workleader or Vehicle Fleet Manager.
