Motor Vehicle Mechanic Helper

About The Position

Cleans, inspects, and performs light maintenance on light-duty motor vehicles. Assists with picking up and delivering test vehicles and drives specified routes to collect on-road data. Supports mechanics and engineers with garage- and lab-related tasks as requested. Maintains vehicle service records and inventories of automotive parts, fluids, cleaning supplies, and equipment.

Requirements

High school graduate.
At least 5 years of relevant experience in an automotive-industry-related business.
Experience with inventory control, ordering materials, and stocking and storing automotive-related items.
Experience with vehicle cleaning, oil changes, tire repair, and basic vehicle maintenance, repair, or restoration.
Proficiency with personal computers and tablets, and some experience using MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Ability to drive light-duty commercial trucks and manual-transmission vehicles.
Extensive customer service and support work experience.
Some experience with workplace safety programs.
Well-organized and comfortable multitasking daily.
Fewer than 4 points on the driving record and no DUI, visibly impaired, or reckless driving charges within the past 5 years.

Nice To Haves

Vehicle knowledge and/or experience driving test vehicles.
CDL Class A license.
Prior experience installing vehicle- or engine-related instrumentation.
Some experience with major vehicle repairs and a passion for working with motor vehicles.
State of Michigan automotive repair certifications.
