The Motor Vehicle Inspector works under the direction of the Motor Vehicle Inspection Supervisor or designee, conducting vehicle identification inspections on out-of-state and salvage vehicles. This role involves greeting and directing customers, reviewing ownership records, and ensuring all pertinent documentation is present. The incumbent must maintain knowledge of vehicle titles from other states and countries and conduct identification inspections on various vehicle types, ensuring identification and odometer readings match records. They will also complete documentation, inform supervisors of any VIN or odometer issues, maintain a clean work area, and perform clerical and cashiering duties, including NCIC/NCIS database lookups, fee collection, and balancing daily receipts. Additionally, the role may involve conducting on-site and online VIN inspections for local dealerships, directing the work of other inspectors in the supervisor's absence, assisting in impounding suspect vehicles, and maintaining current job knowledge and skills. Safely operating a motor vehicle for County business and reporting to work with regular, consistent attendance are also essential. The position may perform other duties as assigned.
