The Ohio State Highway Patrol is an internationally accredited agency whose mission is to protect life and property, promote traffic safety and provide professional public safety services with respect, compassion, and unbiased professionalism. This position involves inspecting motor vehicles including motor homes, campers, school buses, church buses, self-assembled vehicles, & salvage vehicles to determine whether they are unsafe or improperly equipped, or that equipment is in proper adjustment or repair as required by law. The role requires entering & exiting vehicles & bending, stooping & utilizing a mechanics' "creeper" in order to crawl under vehicles to visually check mechanical components. Inspectors will enter & retrieve information using numerous Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) databases, complete inspection forms & affix inspection decals to those vehicles which pass. The position also involves operating a state-owned motor vehicle inspection vehicle to transport equipment and informing the owner &/or operator of repairs or adjustments which are necessary to place the vehicle in safe condition.
