About The Position

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is an internationally accredited agency whose mission is to protect life and property, promote traffic safety and provide professional public safety services with respect, compassion, and unbiased professionalism. This position involves inspecting motor vehicles including motor homes, campers, school buses, church buses, self-assembled vehicles, & salvage vehicles to determine whether they are unsafe or improperly equipped, or that equipment is in proper adjustment or repair as required by law. The role requires entering & exiting vehicles & bending, stooping & utilizing a mechanics' "creeper" in order to crawl under vehicles to visually check mechanical components. Inspectors will enter & retrieve information using numerous Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) databases, complete inspection forms & affix inspection decals to those vehicles which pass. The position also involves operating a state-owned motor vehicle inspection vehicle to transport equipment and informing the owner &/or operator of repairs or adjustments which are necessary to place the vehicle in safe condition. Requirements

• 6 mos. trg. or 6 mos. exp. in automotive maintenance & repair &/or mechanical vehicle inspections
• 6 mo. exp. utilizing personal computer & associated business office applications (Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook.)
• Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & in reading, writing & speaking common English vocabulary
• Valid driver's license
• Valid Driver’s license required.
• This position requires USE OF A COMPUTER/TABLET within the job duties. In order to be considered, applicants MUST explain how they meet the required computer experience within their current/previous work history (as well as any other required minimum qualifications).

Responsibilities

• Inspect motor vehicles including motor homes, campers, school buses, church buses, self-assembled vehicles, & salvage vehicles to determine whether they are unsafe or improperly equipped, or that equipment is in proper adjustment or repair as required by law by entering & exiting vehicles & bends, stoops & utilizes mechanics' "creeper" in order to crawl under vehicle to visually check vehicle mechanical components.
• Enter & retrieve information using numerous Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) databases.
• Complete inspection forms & affix inspection decals to those vehicles which pass.
• Operate state owned motor vehicle inspection vehicle to transport equipment used in motor vehicle inspection.
• Inform the owner &/or operator of repairs or adjustments which are necessary to place the vehicle in safe condition.
