About The Position

This position will work from a centralized medical supply location and deliver medical supplies to all six DOC facilities. Job duties will include loading and unloading delivery vehicles, operating the delivery vehicle, maintaining par levels of necessary supplies in each facility, ordering/procuring/accounting for and reconciling supply needs for each facility, accepting returned supplies as needed to maintain cleanliness of the individual supply rooms, and obtaining signatures for receipt of supplies. The Department of Corrections is seeking a Motor Equipment Operator to operate, service, and maintain medium and heavy trucks or other internal combustion engine equipment used in routine road maintenance or construction operations. This role also involves operating a truck for a state department or institution, performing tasks such as transporting food, laundry, equipment, supplies, refuse, etc., and assisting in loading and unloading such a vehicle. Additionally, the operator may be responsible for snow plowing and sanding duties, making minor running repairs, and potentially operating catch basin cleaner equipment or performing manual labor.

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of the state laws pertaining to the operation of motor vehicles on the highway.
  • Skill in the operation and servicing of motor equipment other than heavy diesel and gasoline motor equipment.
  • Ability to make emergency minor running repairs and adjustments to equipment.
  • Ability to understand readily and carry out simple oral and written directions.
  • Completion of eight school grades.
  • Experience as an operator of trucks or other motor equipment, involving the performance of some manual labor.
  • Possession of the proper operator’s license issued in conformance to requirements of the Rhode Island Registry of Motor Vehicles.
  • Must maintain licensure as a condition of employment.
  • Physically qualified to perform assigned duties as evidenced by a physician’s certificate at the time of appointment.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, service and maintain medium and heavy trucks or other internal combustion engine equipment used in routine road maintenance or construction operations.

  • Operate catch basin cleaner equipment (as required).
  • Perform manual labor (as required).
  • Maintain par levels of necessary supplies in each facility.
  • Order/procure/account for and reconcile supply needs for each facility.
  • Accept returned supplies as needed to maintain cleanliness of individual supply rooms.
  • Obtain signatures for receipt of supplies.
