About The Position

Accent Controls, Inc. (ACI) is seeking a full-time Motor Equipment Metal Mechanic to support field and sustainment level maintenance at Fort Gordon Logistics Readiness Center (LRC), located at Fort Gordon, Georgia. This non-exempt job classification is covered under The McNamara-O'Hara Service Contract Act (SCA) and the contract's collective bargaining agreement (CBA). Service employees are compensated per the prevailing wage rates and fringe benefits that are set by the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) Wage and Hour Division's WDs 29 CFR Part 541 and 29 CFR 4.163(f), unless otherwise modified by a CBA between labor and management. Under general supervision, this role maintains and repairs bodies, body components, mainframes and body structural members on motor equipment including, but not limited to, cars, trucks, buses, warehouse tractors, forklifts, ambulances, cranes, fire trucks, and construction equipment. In addition to the type of work performed by Motor Equipment Metal Workers, this role makes more difficult repairs on damaged parts such as folds, wrinkles, and large tears in fenders, doors, hoods, and roofs; repair damage to mainframes and body structural members such as door posts, door frames, skeletal frame work, and main support members; and, perform work to closer tolerances in the fitting of body to frame, doors, window channels, hoods, trunk lids and other parts. May perform duties of other classifications that have a pay rate equal to or lower than the employee's current rate.

Requirements

  • Maintain and repair bodies, body components, mainframes and body structural members on motor equipment.
  • Make difficult repairs on damaged parts such as folds, wrinkles, and large tears in fenders, doors, hoods, and roofs.
  • Repair damage to mainframes and body structural members such as door posts, door frames, skeletal frame work, and main support members.
  • Perform work to closer tolerances in the fitting of body to frame, doors, window channels, hoods, trunk lids and other parts.
  • Interpret work orders, blueprints, sketches, and drawings.
  • Use welding equipment, including acetylene and electric arc.
  • Use sheet metal working equipment to cut, bend, form, and shape irregular curves, angles and pitch in the fabrication or modification of components and specialized parts.
  • Background verification checks.

Responsibilities

  • Examine damaged vehicles and determine the total extent of damage, estimate labor and material requirements, and determine the methods, equipment, material, and techniques required and whether to repair damaged parts or replace them with fabricated or factory replacement parts.
  • Interpret work orders, blueprints, sketches, and drawings, and, plan and lay out work including the determination of material, equipment, and parts required.
  • Use welding equipment, including acetylene and electric arc, to perform a variety of work such as cutting, brazing, welding and bending a variety of metal stock.
  • Work may be performed in an overhead position as well as on vertical and horizontal planes.
  • Cut out and weld body panels, weld large tears and breaks in body parts and frames, weld reinforcements in place, and apply heat to straighten frames.
  • Use sheet metal working equipment to cut, bend, form, and shape irregular curves, angles and pitch in the fabrication or modification of components and specialized parts.
  • Provide specific instructions to lower level workers as to methods, tools and materials required.
  • Performs other duties as requested which may include driving a government vehicle.
