About The Position

The Moto Operator is an individual contributor role. The primary function of this position is the operation of the Moto Cell, to weld the base and other components of steel square tubes. The Moto Operator loads steel shafts via conveyor into the machine and weld bases, hand hole rims and other components to make a complete or partially complete assembly. Monitors the quality of incoming steel shafts and determines when material is substandard. Operates welding equipment to perform GMAW (MIG) welding. Must be certified in MIG welding to meet AWS requirements as well as specialized certifications to customer requirements. Will be required to weld in flat and horiztonal positions. Adjusts welding equipment to its prescribed settings, operates oxy/acetylene burning equipment. Uses IFS labor reporting system, standard shop forms, move tags, reads and utilizes blueprints. Must be able to weld, hammer, grind, and use a variety of different tools.

Requirements

  • Must possess acceptable work history and attendance record.
  • Minimum of 3+ year welding experience.
  • Read blueprints and ability to use tape measure.
  • Must pass welder level 3 assessment.
  • Ability to make mathematical calculation in preparing product or setting up the machinery.
  • Ability to bend and pivot as well as lift, push, and pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds throughout the shift.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified as a Welder B test.
  • High school diploma/GED equivalent.
  • Ability to pass an AWS welder operator qualification test for GMAW processes.
  • Knowledge of basic programming and set up of PLC controlled machinery, trouble shooting, and well versed in operators’ maintenance of equipment.
  • Previous experience as a Moto Operator Helper.
  • Previous experience operating robotic welders.

Responsibilities

  • Operation of the Moto Cell to weld the base and other components of steel square tubes.
  • Loading steel shafts via conveyor into the machine.
  • Welding bases, hand hole rims and other components to make a complete or partially complete assembly.
  • Monitoring the quality of incoming steel shafts and determining when material is substandard.
  • Operating welding equipment to perform GMAW (MIG) welding.
  • Welding in flat and horizontal positions.
  • Adjusting welding equipment to its prescribed settings.
  • Operating oxy/acetylene burning equipment.
  • Using IFS labor reporting system, standard shop forms, move tags, reading and utilizing blueprints.
  • Welding, hammering, grinding, and using a variety of different tools.
  • Passing an AWS welder operator qualification test for GMAW processes.
  • Performing basic programming and setup of PLC controlled machinery, troubleshooting, and performing operator's maintenance of equipment.
  • Making mathematical calculations in preparing product or setting up the machinery.
  • Bending and pivoting as well as lifting, pushing, and pulling objects weighing up to 50 pounds throughout the shift.
  • Standing, walking, crouching, kneeling, and climbing stairs and ladders.
  • Operating or becoming certified in operating a forklift and overhead crane.
  • Wearing all required personal protective equipment (PPE) in the shop environment.
  • Reading and deciphering blueprints and flat sheets without assistance and using them to properly weld scheduled work.
  • Performing all functions of Moto Helper position.
  • Working overtime when required for business needs.
  • Becoming forklift certified within the first 90 days of the job.
