About The Position

Pacific Impact Zone (PIZ) is seeking a Modular Open Source Architecture (MOSA) Architect to lead the design and implementation of modular open architecture frameworks across our national defense portfolio. This role is designed for someone with direct, hands-on experience implementing MOSA frameworks, with substantial contributions to building it, defending it in a program office, or driving compliance through a real acquisition. The ideal candidate is technically credible enough to evaluate vendor claims and design interface standards, and operationally fluent enough to lead DOD mission partner engagements and keep complex implementation work moving. The MOSA Architect will be the primary point of accountability for PIZ’s open architecture programming across regional and national clients that are funding PIZ to implement MOSA approaches across a number of priority mission areas including manufacturing and munitions.

Requirements

BS in Engineering or equivalent
Direct, first-hand experience contributing to a MOSA framework — inside a program office, as a prime or subcontractor, or as a standards body contributor (required)
Demonstrated ownership of a bounded initiative or workstream — you’ve been accountable for outcomes, managed stakeholders, and kept work moving in ambiguous conditions
Working knowledge of relevant policy: DoDI 5000.88, NDAA MOSA mandates, interface standards, and related acquisition guidance
Ability to communicate across audiences — program managers, warfighters, engineers, and senior leaders — and adapt technical content accordingly
Oriented toward ownership and accountability — you have been responsible for work with real stakes, not just a participant in it
Comfortable making forward progress with incomplete information and building structure where it doesn’t yet exist
Pragmatic and execution-focused — you know the difference between compliance and implementation, and you care about the latter
Genuinely connected to the defense mission; motivated by impact to the Warfighter
Willing to document and transfer what you know — institutional knowledge that stays inside one person’s head doesn’t serve the mission

Nice To Haves

Familiarity with OSA, FACE, SOSA, HOST, or similar open architecture standards is a plus
Prior experience in logistics modernization, supply chain visibility, or MOSA in a sustainment context is a plus

Responsibilities

Own PIZ’s MOSA programming across the national portfolio — from strategy through execution — and serve as the primary point of accountability to mission partners
Lead implementation planning with regional and national customers, coordinating across internal teams, industry, and program offices to drive real delivery, not just compliance documentation
Build and sustain relationships with mission partners at the program office level, representing PIZ’s technical and strategic position on open architecture matters
Design and document open architecture frameworks, interface control documents, and modular integration standards for new programs and legacy system modernization efforts
Translate MOSA/MOSA-C compliance requirements into actionable technical and contractual guidance; identify gaps between policy intent and program reality and develop practical paths to close them
Pressure-test vendor claims, evaluate architectural proposals, and provide credible technical judgment across a range of program contexts
Contribute subject matter expertise to internal platform design, particularly around MOSA supply chain integration and make/repair/buy decision frameworks
Document frameworks, decisions, and lessons learned in transferable form — reducing single-point-of-expertise dependency and building PIZ’s durable MOSA capability over time
