Our new team member can be in any of the following Mercantile market locations in Michigan: Alma, Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Lansing, Traverse City, Troy or West Branch. You will work alongside dynamic professionals who are just as passionate about customer-centricity and innovation as you are. The Mortgage Loan Processor at Mercantile Bank plays a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless progression of mortgage files from application to closing. This position is designed for individuals with a robust mortgage background, strong organizational skills, and a keen eye for detail. You will be responsible for ordering and validating essential documents such as property titles, appraisals, and credit reports while collaborating closely with customers and Mortgage Loan Officers to ensure compliance with regulatory timelines. Demonstrating proficiency in agency and investor guidelines, you will structure files effectively and manage the submission process through an Automated Underwriting System (AUS). Your role includes independently clearing underwriting conditions and preparing files for final approval, all while maintaining proactive communication with borrowers throughout the loan lifecycle. As a vital member of the team, you will ensure that loan files meet compliance standards to minimize post-closing exceptions and meet service level expectations efficiently.

Requirements

1 to 3 years of job-related experience in mortgage processing and documentation
Strong organizational skills
Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Word and Excel
Knowledge of Freddie Mac, Fannie Mae, FHA, RD, and VA guidelines
Adaptability in dynamic environments
Ability to thrive under pressure
Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
Exceptional organizational capabilities

Effective time management skills

Nice To Haves

Prior mortgage loan processing experience
Experience working with Encompass (Loan Operating System)
Two-year college degree
Specialized certifications
Training in relevant vendor courses

Responsibilities

Partner with Mortgage Loan Officers and Mortgage Sales Assistants to streamline and enhance the customer home buying or refinance process.
Ensure that all Mortgage Loan Documentation meetings policies and regulations.
Communicate with customers throughout their experience.
Order and validate essential documents such as property titles, appraisals, and credit reports.
Collaborate closely with customers and Mortgage Loan Officers to ensure compliance with regulatory timelines.
Structure files effectively and manage the submission process through an Automated Underwriting System (AUS).
Independently clear underwriting conditions and prepare files for final approval.
Maintain proactive communication with borrowers throughout the loan lifecycle.
Ensure that loan files meet compliance standards to minimize post-closing exceptions and meet service level expectations efficiently.
