About The Position

PenAir Credit Union is seeking a Mortgage Loan Originator to join their team. This role involves developing external community contacts such as realtors, builders, and insurance agents to generate mortgage leads, as well as managing leads from the internal membership base. The Mortgage Loan Originator will counsel members on the best mortgage programs to fit their needs for first mortgage purchases, construction, and refinance transactions, and will regularly follow up with borrowers, builders, and realtors to ensure loans are closed. The position also involves educating branch personnel on basic mortgage products to help develop new leads.

Requirements

  • A minimum of one year up to three years of similar or related experience, including preparatory experience.
  • A high school degree or equivalent.
  • Registered as an active Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO) on the NMLS site.
  • Must renew registration each year and update when changes to name, address, etc. occur.
  • Professional and effective communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Solid time management skills.
  • Ability to analyze and comprehend complex financial data to provide financial alternatives.

Responsibilities

  • Develop outside community contacts such as realtors, builders, insurance agents, title companies, and other professionals to generate external mortgage leads.
  • Manage leads from internal membership base including developing branch personnel in sourcing internal mortgage leads.
  • Manage relationships with members and potential members via telephone and in-person interviews for first mortgage purchases, construction, and refinance transactions.
  • Counsel with member(s) to provide best program to fit member(s)' needs.
  • Regularly follow-up with borrowers, builders, and realtors on loan applications to convert applications to closed loans.
  • Engage in outside sales activities including regular calling on relationship partners to maintain existing partnerships and to develop/establish new relationship partners.
  • Meet in-person or by phone to answer general mortgage questions for members, potential members, and branch team members related to purchases, refinances, and new construction.
  • Analyze residential loan applications to verify that application data is complete and meets policy and procedure standards (i.e. allowable terms, assets, credit, and length of employment, etc.).
  • Prepare and provide applicants with pre-qualification and denial letters.
  • Assure proper mortgage disclosures are provided to all borrowers within 3 days of a completed application.
  • Follow-up with borrowers on completion of initial disclosures and request minimum support documentation (i.e. income documents, asset statements, etc.) from borrowers.
  • Forward file to assigned Processor for submission to underwriting.
  • Work with assigned branch personnel to educate them on basic mortgage products to assist in developing new mortgage leads.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
