About The Position

This position is responsible for soliciting potential borrowers for new mortgage loans. The goal is to increase the mortgage loan portfolio by developing business contacts, attracting mortgage customers, and completing mortgage loan processing and closing. The role involves examining applications and supporting documentation to estimate credit-worthiness. The Mortgage Lender reports to the Market President, Officer, SVP, or VP and works closely with customers and key stakeholders. The job requires developing strategies to solicit new business, creating sales and growth for the company, and attracting new mortgage loan applications by building relationships within the community, particularly with the real estate community, and making sales calls to prospective customers. The role also involves following leads, conducting research to find new clients, and partnering with other bank areas and bankers for cross-selling opportunities. Key responsibilities include interviewing, consulting, accepting, and analyzing the credit of potential borrowers, presenting products, explaining the loan process, and obtaining necessary documentation. The position also involves meeting mortgage loan operational standards, resolving problems, estimating credit-worthiness, calculating repayment risk, justifying decisions, and reporting on them. Completing mortgage loans involves monitoring collection, verification, and preparation of documentation, as well as scheduling and completing closings. The role requires guiding borrowers through the application process, explaining loan types and credit terms, answering questions, and assisting with applications. Providing guidance to borrowers who may have difficulty qualifying for traditional loans is also part of the role. A thorough review of loan application files is necessary to analyze financial information and assess borrower capacity, cash flows, character, collateral, and condition. Ensuring loan approvals comply with underwriting, product, and program policies and procedures is crucial. The position must operate in compliance with laws and regulations and adhere to lending compliance guidelines. Building trust, customer loyalty, and satisfaction throughout the underwriting process is essential. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Proven working experience in financial analyzing or lending.
  • Strong financial skills and ability to develop and interpret financial statements applied to business accounting and finance principles are required.
  • Familiarity with computers and banking applications/software.
  • Solid understanding of direct/indirect lending products and practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a goal oriented environment.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Economics or related field; 5 years lending experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Related work experience should consist of a financial analyzing or lending background.
  • Experience in analysis.
  • Knowledge of cash management products.
  • Knowledge of federal state laws and regulations pertaining to consumer lending.
  • NMLS (Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System).
  • Current driver’s license with appropriate insurance coverage.

Responsibilities

  • Meet mortgage loan operational standards by contributing mortgage loan information to strategic plans and reviews; implementing quality and customer service standards; and resolving problems.
  • Examine application and supporting documentation; estimate credit-worthiness; calculate repayment risk.
  • Justify decisions (approvals/rejections) and report on them.
  • Complete mortgage loans by monitoring collection, verification, and preparation of mortgage loan documentation; scheduling and completing mortgage loan closing.
  • Guide borrowers through the application process by proactively reaching out to the prospective borrower.
  • Explain the different types of loans and credit terms that are available to the applicant.
  • Answer questions about the process and assist borrowers in filling out the application if necessary.
  • Provide guidance to prospective borrowers who have problems qualifying for traditional loans.
  • Review submitted loan application file to analyze, interpret and evaluate financial information and loan documentation to assess borrower capacity, cash flows, character, collateral, and condition to honor his or her obligations.
  • Ensure that approval of new loan requests comply with loan underwriting, product and program policies and procedures.
  • Operate in compliance with laws and regulations and adhere to lending compliance guidelines.
  • Go the “extra mile” to build trust relationships, customer loyalty and satisfaction throughout the underwriting process.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
