About The Position

The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services’ (DBHDS) Office of the Chief Clinical Officer is seeking a licensed professional to provide clinical and administrative leadership to oversee and coordinate the DBHDS Mortality Review team. This position is responsible for the clinical quality improvement related to individuals’ deaths through the review of integrated clinical, administrative, and regulatory information. Using this data, comprehensive evaluation of systems, policies and processes will be conducted and enhanced to ensure the highest quality of care, patient-centeredness and safety. This position works with interdisciplinary teams to achieve system wide patient safety outcomes related to behavioral health, developmental services, and physical health care; works closely with the Department of Justice Settlement Agreement team to ensure the DBHDS compliance with the review, monitoring and reporting of the Developmental Disabilities Mortality Review Committee (MRC); and provides supervision and management of the clinical and non-clinical staff for the MRC. This position also provides leadership in advancing the DBHDS vision of system transformation and promotes collaboration of all providers within the Commonwealth to support that vision, and provides technical and clinical assistance is provided to the Chief Clinical Officer regarding medical or psychiatric care issues.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse or Nurse Practitioner Licensed in the State of Virginia.
  • Knowledge of state and local government human services operations that serve individuals in need of behavioral health or substance abuse and addiction, or developmental disability treatment and supports.
  • Knowledge of program and treatment methodologies for individuals with mental illness, substance abuse and addiction, or developmental disabilities.
  • Knowledge of the continuum of serves and supports necessary to support the behavioral health/substance abuse treatment needs of individuals, including community-based, inpatient, and long-term care services and supports.
  • Ability to foster collaboration by promoting cooperative goals and building trust.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Ability to develop quality improvement and performance improvement plans.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in the use of data software and computerized data entry.

Nice To Haves

  • Clinical leadership and administrative experience.
  • Experience in Clinical Quality Improvement.
  • Participation in mortality, morbidity, quality improvement, or patient safety reviews to reduce preventable deaths.
  • Strong understanding of relevant clinical standards, evidence-based practices, and relevant clinical guidelines.
  • Experience reviewing charts, interpreting clinical data, identifying contributing factors, and able to execute requests for related information where gaps exist in the data.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA/privacy rules and demonstrated ability to manage and synthesize sensitive information.
