About The Position

The YMCA of the North Shore is seeking a Morning Gymnastics Instructor to lead gymnastics classes primarily for preschool-aged participants. This role is ideal for individuals who love working with young children and want to foster confidence, coordination, and a love of movement in a safe and welcoming environment. It's particularly suitable for college students pursuing careers in Early Childhood Education, Education, Psychology, Recreation, or related fields.

Requirements

  • Must be available in the mornings: Monday- Friday, 8:30 am-12:30 pm
  • Must be a minimum of 16 years of age
  • Must have teaching experience and work well with kids
  • Must be able to see and hear an emergency
  • Ability to lift equipment and maneuver equipment and weight up to 55 lbs or that of a small to average size child
  • Ability to navigate the uneven surfaces on the gym floor

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working with preschool-aged children is preferred.
  • Experience participating in gymnastics, dance, cheer, or another movement-based activity is a plus.
  • College students interested in a future career working with children are encouraged to apply!

Responsibilities

  • Lead engaging, age-appropriate morning gymnastics classes for preschool-aged children.
  • Create a warm, inviting, and positive environment where children feel safe, supported, and excited to participate.
  • Introduce young children to basic gymnastics, movement, coordination, balance, and body awareness through fun activities and age-appropriate instruction.
  • Use positive guidance and encouragement to help children build confidence and try new skills.
  • Demonstrate and assist with gymnastics activities while prioritizing participant safety.
  • Build positive relationships with children and families and provide a welcoming experience.
  • Follow YMCA curriculum and program expectations while adapting activities to meet the needs of individual participants.
  • Set up and maintain a safe, clean, and organized gymnastics environment.
  • Work collaboratively with other gymnastics staff to create a consistent and supportive program experience.
