About The Position
The News Anchor is the primary presenter of news stories and other content across platforms, delivering material clearly, engagingly, and meaningfully. The role ensures news content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality. It includes writing and delivering news, producing newscasts, and providing clear direction to team members. The anchor also supports newsroom programming through writing, copy editing, research, and coordination; reports in the field when assigned; conducts interviews; and responds to breaking news and other urgent newsroom situations as required. Additional duties include promotional activities and public appearances, special projects, editing assigned video clips, writing for websites and other eMedia platforms, and interacting with viewers and users on social media.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
- Fluency in English.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to ad lib when required.
- Minimum five years of experience in news reporting or anchoring; the requirement may vary depending on market size.
- Superior on-air presence.
- Excellent news judgment and expansive knowledge of local and national current events, history, newsmakers, and issues.
- Experience guiding, directing, and motivating others.
- Ability to identify others’ developmental needs and coach, mentor, or otherwise help them improve their knowledge or skills.
- Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines, and other office equipment.
- Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to listen effectively, understand problems, and communicate with a team to shape a solution.
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Flexibility to work any shift.
