About The Position

Appalachian Community Services provides Mental Health, Behavioral Health, Substance Use, and Developmental Disability services to individuals, families, and communities within the seven western counties of North Carolina. We provide a wide range of walk-in, psychiatric, substance abuse, and crisis services to adults and children. We are actively seeking a compassionate and skilled MORES Therapist to join our team full-time. This role is essential to our mission, providing therapy, crisis support, and service coordination for mental health clients in a variety of settings. As a MORES Therapist with Appalachian Community Services, you will provide community-based crisis intervention services to youth experiencing acute mental health and/or substance use crises. Intervention may involve rapid response, connecting youth and families with necessary resources, providing immediate support to stabilize the situation, and working with other service providers to coordinate care. This description outlines the general scope and level of work for this role. It is not intended to include every duty or responsibility that may be required of employees in this position.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in social work, counseling, psychology, or a related field.
  • Must be either a licensed or board-eligible/provisional licensed professional (LPC, LPA, LMFT, OR LCSW)
  • Must have a valid, unrestricted, state-appropriate driver’s license
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual, family, and/or group therapy sessions
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
  • Collaborate with care teams as needed
  • Maintain compliance with all clinical and regulatory standards
  • Participate in supervision (if applicable based on licensure level)
  • Crisis intervention: Respond to community mental health and substance use crises and provide immediate support and intervention to stabilize the youth in crisis.
  • Assessment: Conducts comprehensive assessments of the youth’s mental health and substance use needs to develop a personalized care plan.
  • Referral and linkage to care: Connects youth in crisis to appropriate mental health and substance use treatment services, including outpatient and inpatient care and community-based resources.
  • Case management: Provides ongoing support and case management services to youth with complex mental health and/or substance use needs, ensuring continuity of care and treatment adherence.
  • Outreach and education: Engages with community stakeholders, including law enforcement, hospitals, schools, and other providers, to promote mental health and substance use awareness, prevention, and early intervention.
