Monitoring Center Technician
About The Position
We are seeking a Monitoring Center Technician / Engineer to monitor and support mission-critical power infrastructure, including substations, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), Distribution Statis Synchronous Compensator (DSTATCOM), Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS), solar facilities, UPS systems, and power quality equipment. This role serves as the first line of operational awareness and response, ensuring system reliability and rapid escalation of critical events. This is a hybrid position with a combination of on-site and remote work responsibilities. The successful candidate must be able to report to the Remote Monitoring Center as scheduled and during critical operational events, while also supporting monitoring activities remotely when authorized. Work schedules may include rotating shifts, evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call coverage to support continuous 24/7 operations.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Computer Science, Information Technology, Electrical Technology, or a related technical field; equivalent work experience may be considered.
- 1+ years of experience in a Remote Monitoring Center (RMC), Network Operations Center (NOC), Control Room, Utility Operations Center, Data Center Operations, or similar monitoring environment.
- Basic understanding of electrical power systems, substations, renewable energy systems, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems, or industrial control systems.
- Experience monitoring real-time operational data, alarms, events, and system performance through monitoring platforms, SCADA, or similar systems.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to assess and prioritize operational issues.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively coordinate with field personnel, customers, and internal stakeholders.
- Ability to accurately document incidents, operational events, and escalation activities in accordance with established procedures.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and computerized maintenance, ticketing, or incident management systems.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, mission-critical environment while managing multiple priorities.
Responsibilities
- Continuously monitor mission-critical substations, utility-scale UPS systems, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), solar facilities, DSTATCOM equipment, and associated network infrastructure.
- Respond to alarms, warnings, and critical system events in a timely manner.
- Perform initial remote diagnostics and troubleshooting to identify potential root causes.
- Escalate incidents to field service personnel, engineering teams, or on-call resources according to established procedures.
- Document alarms, incidents, corrective actions, and operational events in monitoring and ticketing systems.
- Generate daily, weekly, and monthly operational reports.
- Maintain situational awareness of fleet performance and system health.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance monitoring efficiency and incident response processes.
- Participate in shift turnover communications and operational reviews.
- Support the Monitoring Platform, Data Gathering, System Integration Testing, Power Quality Equipment, Substation Equipment, DNP3, Modbus, Network Firewalls, LAN/WAN, Cyber Security.
- Occasional travel to job sites to support the installation of sensors and testing of communications.
