About The Position

The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) has had a presence in Laos since the late 1980s, with its office officially established in 2001. WWF-Laos works with government, civil society, the private sector, and other partners to address the drivers of biodiversity loss and promote a greener, nature-based future. The organization's vision for Laos is a vibrant and sustainable future shaped by inclusive conservation that protects biodiversity, ensures equitable benefits, and nurtures harmony between people and the environment. WWF's programs in Laos cover Forests, Wildlife, Freshwater, and Circular Resilience, focusing on three main landscapes, eight priority sites, and three cities as outlined in the WWF-Laos 2026-2030 strategic plan. Under the GEF-8 Integrated Program – Circular Solutions to Plastic Pollution, WWF-Laos is collaborating with the Government of Lao PDR on a five-year project to reduce single-use plastic food and beverage packaging and promote sustainable alternatives through inclusive and circular economy approaches. This project targets three key urban areas: Vientiane, Vang Vieng District, and Luang Prabang, engaging policymakers, private sector actors, consumers, and local communities. The project is co-funded by the French Global Environmental Facility (FFEM) to support downstream solutions. WWF-Laos and the Department of Environment (DoE) under the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MAE) are the co-executing agencies. The project aims to support Lao PDR's transition to a circular economy by strengthening policies, increasing market availability of sustainable alternatives, and fostering behavioral change, while integrating gender equality, disability and social inclusion (GEDSI), environmental safeguards, and adaptive management. To support effective implementation, monitoring, learning, and reporting, the project will recruit a Monitoring and Evaluation (MEL) Specialist for the Project Management Unit (PMU), based within the DoE and reporting to the PMU Project Manager.
