About The Position

Banner University Medical Center Phoenix is seeking a Monitor Technician to join their Progressive Care Unit. This is an entry-level position responsible for administrative support and customer service within an assigned patient care area, ensuring an organized and efficient delivery of care. The role facilitates communication between healthcare professionals and patients, handles consult calls, and acts as a liaison with internal departments and external contacts. The position involves continuous observation of patients' monitors, leads, activity, and behaviors, reporting any changes or abnormalities to clinical staff. It also includes maintaining logs of activity and changes, obtaining calibrated rhythm strips, documenting changes, providing information to physicians and staff, monitoring and maintaining monitoring equipment, and potentially providing general department support. The role operates under general supervision and requires interaction with various levels of staff, physicians, patients, families, and external contacts. All functions must be performed in accordance with established policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, and professional standards, aiming to provide an excellent service experience.

Requirements

High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
Current BLS certification is required for Banner Staffing Services (BSS) monitor technicians.
Depending on department assignment, completion of unit approved basic electrocardiogram -OR- electroencephalographic interpretation course or on the job training – and - a minimum passing score of 85% on ECG -OR- EEG test, with accurate identification of all lethal cardiac dysrhythmias - OR - epileptiform activity.
Must possess a working knowledge of medical terminology.
Requires effective interpersonal and problem solving skills.

Responsibilities

Provides continuous observation of monitors, leads and/or activity and behaviors for assigned patients.
Alerts appropriate clinical staff of any changes and abnormalities.
Obtains calibrated rhythm strips per policy and maintains documentation in accordance with facility standards.
Documents changes in clinical and/or behavioral activity.
Provides information and summaries to physicians and staff.
Monitors and assists in the maintenance of monitoring equipment.
May provide general support to the department, including greeting and assisting patients, visitors, physicians, and ancillary personnel.
Works under general supervision.
Interacts with all levels of staff within the facility, physicians, patients, families and external contacts and vendors.
Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards.
